Brandy Borne and her mother, Vivian, bid on and win the contents of a storage unit whose owner had failed to pay the monthly charge. On their second trip to empty the unit, they find the business’ owner, Big Jim Bob, dead and the rest of the contents gone. While Brandy and Vivian have been involved in solving murders before, this case becomes personal when someone breaks into their home, injuring Brandy’s sister, Peggy Sue, and her dog, Sushi. Complicating the mother-and-daughter sleuthing team’s efforts to find the killer and determine what was in the storage locker, Brandy must deal with the aftershock from learning a family secret and with the fact that her boyfriend, the former chief of police, is now part of the Witness Protection Program. Narrated by Brandy, with some chapters and comments from Vivian (and the pair’s editor), this humorous cozy is framed by life in small-town Iowa and teems with quirky characters. It will appeal to readers who enjoy Donna Andrews’ Meg Langslow mysteries. --Sue OBrien --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Sleuths, Vivian and Brandy share equal writing time in this book about what treasures you might find in a storage locker buy. Trying to increase their antique stock for selling, Mom, Vivian wrangles daughter, Brandy into joining her in bidding on a storage locker that she has received a 'tip' about.
Brandy having her normal, and well-founded, concerns about this latest venture finally agrees and off they go. After winning the locker, they open it and find a cornet and many boxes. Loading up what they could, they head home until the next day.
The next day is when the real action begins and not only is Vivian, Brandy involved in a crime scene but so is Sister/Daughter, Peggy Sue and even wee little Sushi are attacked!
This book was funny and filled with activity. There was also a sub mystery about Brandy's parentage. I have not enjoyed the jokes previously but this book was sensitive to the mentally ill and even showed that those afflicted with this illness can be wonderful contributions to their community.
I have fallen back in love with this series. Now for those clift-hangers...
