Antlion Audio designed the ModMic to attach to your favorite headphone using a novel magnetic clasp. Simply position the clasp to your headphones. The boom mic can be attached or removed as needed. You’ll also enjoy the flexibility of the boom itself, to best position the mic for voice capture and comfort. An extra clasp comes with each ModMic, so you can even use it on more than one headphone.

From the Manufacturer
By default the ModMic is designed to be placed on the left side of your headphones. However, you can re-bend the strain relief and attach it to the right side of your headphones as well. The strain relief is the “U” bend on the back of the mic. Simply straighten the bend and the re-bend it in the opposite direction. Always ensure your strain relief is pointing down to reduce the stress placed on the wiring.

This has a point. I love my 558's, but I had to take them off to play XBox if I wanted to talk to my friends (unless I used my Kinect, but then my friends would head all the 'chick shows' that my beloved gets blamed for me actually picking).
Enter Antlion Modmic.
This thing was rigid as all hell in the beginning. In my photos, you can see one unused stuck-on magnetic port on my headphones that I used to use. It jetted the mic way out infront of my face, and it was alright. I mean, I got to wear my favorite headphones, but the mic was all in the way and falling off all the time (magnetic connection sometimes wasn't enough to handle me tossing the headset on the couch or something).
So I went to Antlion's site and bought more cable clips to hold the mic to the headphone cable. (don't pay the ridiculous amazon price for the cable management plastic pieces, go straight to modmic.com, way cheaper)
My order of cable clips arrives, and I spend some time eye-ing how I was to lay this cable management out so I never have to mess with it again.
It was then that I noticed how bendy the mic's coat really was. Let me clarify: right before the mic, instead of just regular, floppy headphone cable, there is about 6-8" of thicker, bend-resistant rubberized cable that you can manipulate to make shapes, so long as you bend slowly and make wide turns.
ALSO: the plastic cylinder on the mic cable just before the mic CAN SLIDE up and down the cord! This cylinder grabs onto the rubberized mic cord, and has a magnet on one side to hold it to the headset you so wish to stick the matching magnet on (3M adhesive, nice touch, but it ain't going nowhere)
Well, once I noticed that, I bent and clipped and plugged that bad bear in and my party chat worked great! I use a Y-Splitter to split the audio and mic streams, this one has worked works just fine for me:
Oh, and I bought a shorter headphone cable to go to my cans. If you have Sennheiser headphones, check out:
It's expensive, but worth it. Just like this microphone. 5 stars
TL;DR: If you personally have a set of over- or on-ear headphones that you're all about (and they ain't getting replaced for awhile), and if you also you need a mic, then spend the extra money and get an Antlion Modmic and stick it on em!
Side Note: I bought the omni-directional, but if you're getting this for XBox One or Playstation 4, ***you should definitely go with uni-directional for gaming*** (except LANs, when you might want the omni-directional to act as a speakerphone over party chat for those not there). The omni likes to pick up voices, not really other random noises so much. It picks up the TV from my receiver at mid-volume sometimes (I don't go higher than Volume 42 usually, omni starts picking voices up at about 35, females especially, amplifier: Pioneer VSX1022k).
I love this mic. It is easy to set up, just stick it where you want. It was plug-and-play ready. All i needed was the split mini jack for my xbox one controller. Having the ability to easily take the mic off is great too. There is also a nice carrying case that it comes with.
I am currently streaming my Let's Plays of Fallout 4 on twitch, and I sound great. My voice is clear and loud with no static. The one problem with these is that if I mute there is an audible "click", but really, it's not a game changer, I'd totally buy this again.
Great product antlion, keep up the good work :)
The mic quality is plenty adequate for my purposes. I'm sure there's better microphones out there, but for the purposes of online gaming it suits me fine. I'm told that I can be heard clearly and crisply. I did have to bump up the microphone sensitivity in Windows in order to get it to be loud enough. Initially Overwatch wasn't picking up my voice and activating me in the chat channel until I bumped the sensitivity up and then it was registering me and I was coming through. Maybe that's just because I picked the uni-directional instead of the omni-directional mic?
My only complaint comes with the mounting mechanism. It relies on 3M VHB double-stick tape to hold the base to the headphones and then a magnet to hold the boom to the base. It worked great for about 3 weeks then fell off. It comes with 2 pieces of double-stick tape, but after it fell off the first time I just opted to hot-glue the base to the headphones and that has held up much better. It's not a real big complaint, honestly, but it was the most disappointing part of the setup. Otherwise, this microphone setup is fantastic and I'm very pleased with the setup and performance so far.
I'm taking away one star because the attachment area where the microphone attaches to the headset. The magnet on the microphone after detaching/attaching the microphone and rotating it a few times made the magnet actually fall out of its socket. Whatever cheap glue they used was quite evident. Had some superglue on it, glued it back into its socket and I've had no problems since, rotating and detaching the microphone from my headphones with no signs of loosening. Overall, very easy fix, but none the less something I wish I didn't have to deal with.

Great for gaming, discord, and twitch!
I ran a test of running the TV on loud (which is 5-7ft away mounted on the way)
