    Product Description

    From the Manufacturer

By default the ModMic is designed to be placed on the left side of your headphones. However, you can re-bend the strain relief and attach it to the right side of your headphones as well. The strain relief is the “U” bend on the back of the mic. Simply straighten the bend and the re-bend it in the opposite direction. Always ensure your strain relief is pointing down to reduce the stress placed on the wiring.

Headphones damaged during removal of clasp, CS team went out of their way to satisfy after seeing Amazon review
(Scroll all the way down for an update on the situation)I was initially going to give a slightly higher review but after seeing that Antlion doesn't care about the claims they make and lie to the customer I've decided against it. Since the company solely manufactures and sells ModMics I would say the company's practices would tie into the review of the product as well.I ordered this for my Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (80 Ohm), which is without a doubt one of the most popular headphones out there along with the rest of the DT series, the MDR v6/7506, a few AKGs and pretty much the entire Sennheiser lineup. Based on this fact you would think they have extensively tested their product with the above headphones. When first attaching the magnetic clasp it's a little hard to get it rotated perfectly so the mic isn't too high or low and you don't have the option of swiveling it like with the attached boom microphones on headsets. You have two positions which are really high or regular. Because of this I had to remove the clasp and re-position it after rotating it to make the mic point where I wanted it to.When pulling the ModMic's magnetic clasp off the headphones it damaged the strip on the side that has the product name on it by ripping it out. I noticed after this that whenever I would pull the mic off the magnetic clasp it would tug on this part as well. Obviously since they damaged my headphones I returned the product. However, I contacted Antlion because they make claims that this won't happen.https://modmic.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/846654-basics-using-the-modmic-101You can see on this website they make this claim:"As long as you don't take any extreme measures to pry off the Base Clasp (like using a knife or the claw end of a hammer), it should not damage the surface of your headphones in any way."You may be thinking "that isn't their website! hold on man!" but I should explain to you that this is just a platform of which they distribute information and it's linked on their official website in the footer.I contacted the company via email and explained the issue, along with sending an image of the damaged headphones and Louis from Antlion told me this:"Please provide a photo of both sides of the headphones so we can compare the two sides to each other. Also, exactly where on the headphones was the Base Clasp was attached t?"This means that he isn't familiar with one of the most popular headphones out there, which is surprising. He should have been able to see what the damage was without me sending further images. In addition to this, he could have simply looked up the product online to see what a normal side looks like. I sent the image he requested as well as a modified version of the one I originally sent which clearly marks where the damage was done.He then told me this:"Thank you for the updated info. For the side you attached and removed the Boom Clasp - I do see that the smooth area of the headphones (the strip with the name of the headphones on it) is a bit separated. Our Warranty only covers the ModMic and its accessories, as stated here.I apologize, but we will not be able to cover what happened here. We do state that removing the Base Clasp will not damage your headphones, but in the context of the sticky gray foam being hard to remove or leaving a residue or mark on the headphones."Sorry Louis, but you're wrong. When your company states "pry off the Base Clasp (like using a knife or the claw end of a hammer)" it's obviously an implication to gouging, scratching or otherwise damaging the surface of the headphone. The worst part is that stating "it should not damage the surface of your headphones in any way" is explicitly stating that this shouldn't happen. The company refuses to stand by their product after it damaged expensive high-end headphones. For the product itself:Pros:- Sounds fine- Case is really nice- Build quality seems fine but I only had it for a night so I don't know how well it holds up to frequent useCons:- Crappy company who doesn't care if they damage your headphones- Mute is too high up on the cord- Not enough cable management things included- Once you attach the clasp there's pretty much no amount of customization of the positioning of the mic that leaves it in a usable state.UPDATE: 7/27/2016:It's hard to figure out where to rate something in a situation like this. I would say a company could only slightly influence a review after deciding on the product. When the product is reviewed negatively and you feel the customer support is unwilling to talk things out I think it's easy to rate 1/5. 3/5 will hopefully be accurate and fair after this new information because after all, removing the clasp by hand did rip apart the side of my headphones which aren't some cheap Radioshack things. However, after one of their CS agents saw this review they asked me to contact them (as you can see in the comments) I did so. Rob from their team offered an independent refund from the Amazon one via PayPal for the cost of the AntLion. They've also updated their knowledge-base to not indicate that it won't damage the headphones in any way.Thank You Rob.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Microphone for gaming and general use
Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2017
After nearly 3 weeks of researching in forums and a few youtube videos, I ended buying this microphone for my headphones. I am an avid gamer and decided to make my own gaming headphones because sound quality is very important to me. After testing the Zalman mic 1 and the microphone on my old astro a40 tr's, the sound the modmic produces on the receiving end is incredible.

When compared to the Zalman Mic 1, the modmic produces a smooth sound for those listening and with its mic cover, which essentially is a pop filter, there is less punchiness with the sounds. Overall it just has a nice warm sound without the echo chamber sound I got with the Zalman mic 1.

The mod mic comes with all the accessories you need to mount it to a nice pair of headphones. 2 magnetic base clasps with adhesives on the back to attach to any headphone you may have. I currently own the Audio Technica's ATH AD700x and the outside of the cans are mesh. The adhesive on the base clasp had no issues sticking to that surface. I actually had to reposition the clasp and was able to use the same adhesive backing to reattach it to my headphones. The microphone snaps on securely and feels sturdy.

It also comes with some cable clips for wire management. I will say if you are a stickler for wire management, you may want to look at the mod mic 5.0. It actually comes with a mesh cable covers to hide how the wires look vs the 4.0 where it clearly shows (refer to photos). The noise cancelling was a big factor since my keyboard is relatively loud. I felt the zalman mic 1 was a little too sensitive for my taste and would pick up the keyboard clicks. The modmic does a great job at mitigating background noise. The boom mic itself has a flexible yet sturdy tube which makes for easy adjustment of the mic itself.

The one major drawback for this microphone is compatibility. When I plugged this into my pc the sound came out very low and would cut in and out. My understanding is the modmic may have some challenges with onboard audio for some motherboards. In order to get the most out of the mic, it needs to draw a little bit of power that some onboard sound cards cannot provide. I believe it needs about 5v of phantom power. What phantom power means, I am not sure but what I do know is you will likely need a usb audio adapter in order to get the mic to work well. Luckily usb adapters are not terribly expensive. I bought mine at frys for $6 and my mic worked perfect afterwards. If you are planning on buying this mic I would strongly recommend buying a usb audio adapter with microphone inputs unless your sound card can power the modmic.

Last thing I promise. The microphone itself is a little short, so you may want to test positioning to see if your headphones can support where you want the base clasps to be. That way you are not sticking it on and peeling it off constantly like some people I know (me).
Overall it is a great microphone for the price. There are plenty of other options for much less but as far as quality is concerned you cannot beat this set for the price. I have been using this for about 4 days and have had no issues with it.

    What I liked:
Build Quality is on par for the price you pay
    Sound quality
    Accessories
    Ease of use
    Noise canceling
    unidirectional
    Mute Button
    Magnetic base clasps
    Cable length

    What I did not like:
    Lack of wire management
Lack of swivel like feature to move the microphone away from the mouth when not in use. (Luckily the clasps are magnetic, so a quick pull and adjustment of the microphone does not require much effort)

Overall it is a great microphone for the price. There are plenty of other options for much less but as far as quality is concerned you cannot beat this set for the price.

This mic is pretty cool. I've used a similar product from Zalman in the past and didn't like it at all - but I actually quite appreciate the Antlion ModMic.
    --
DISCLAIMER: As with most of my reviews - this was a review for my YouTube channel, and I was sent the product for free via my PR contact at Antlion. No one is paying for this review, seeing it before it goes live, nor having any sort of input on what I say in my review.
    ---
    ****Good Stuff:
Mic is adjustable to move out of your face when not in use - or detachable - and can be positioned perfectly for voice calling.
The adhesive mounts are high-quality and do not come loose. The magnet is strong and holds the mic in place, no matter how much you move.
The mic is small and does not weigh a ton.
    The mute switch is fantastic!
    Carrying case is pretty cool.

The audio quality is actually pretty good! I was quite impressed. It's clear and quite "boomy". Some might not like that, but it helps make sure you can be heard overtop game volume. It's less boomy if you move it further from your mouth and talk louder.
The cable clips are handy as well.
Sounds WAY better than any gaming headset mic I've used, with much better background noise rejection than webcam mics.
    ---
    ****Bad Stuff:
It's still a second cable running along your headphone cable, which can add to mess, frustration, tangling, etc.
It's harder to mount on more high-end headphones with weird shapes, but works fine on normal-shaped headphones.
It's expensive (as is any good audio solution. I'd rather someone use this mounted appropriately than something like a Blue Snowball!)
Moving around a lot while talking causes the mic to bounce a little, which affects the audio quality. The auto gain control on the mic prevents it from being a nuisance in a listener's ear, but can effect voice quality. The tighter your headphones on your head, the worse this gets - as when you talk, your jaw naturally moves, thus moving the ear cup.
No indication (that I could find) on the case, mic, user manual, etc. to indicate if you got the unidirectional mic (this one) or the omnidirectional mic. You can check your order receipt, but a minor annoyance.

    --
****Side Note: I also tried out some of the accessories that came with it. The 4-pole to 3-pole splitter works great for X1/PS4 gaming situations, and the USB sound card is perfect if you're like me and have no desire to reach around to an impossible-to-reach back of your desktop PC to plug into your sound card. It also works on Linux! (and Windows 10.)
