I love this movie! Every topic controversial or otherwise is covered here. Amazing story of one woman’s family and legacy. My favorite line is the very last line of the movie! Another huge plus (for me) is there is not one scene that does not have a hand knit or crocheted item in it.

This movie has everything a person could want, truly. It's told from the viewpoint of Antonia, the matriarch of a wonderful family, who is on her deathbed, reminiscing about the life she led. I saw it once and then recorded it, but it plays very rarely, which is regrettable. I've rented and lost 2 DVRs and it was on one of them so I was forced to lose it. I tried buying a VHS tape of it, but it was a demo tape and worn out already. If you get a chance, do see this movie - you'll be so glad you did!

As many reviewers have already pointed out, Antonia's Line is a film that celebrates women, their power and independence, their healthy condition that they enjoy when they are free from men, their superior spirituality to the male gender. Upon a second viewing, I found the film a bit annoying, painting women as smug earth mothers, and men as testosterone-deranged crackpots who must be kept at a distance. Thus one women "allows" a man to impregnate her but, deeming him an unnecessary presence, wants to raise her child on her own. The only men that are looked at with kindness in this film are emasculated neurotics, professorial, melancholy eunuchs, and the like. The polarity between women as spiritual earth mothers and men as troglodytes is a grotesque oversimplification and impedes the film's noble attempt to question male-dominant roles and how those roles have subjectated women.

This is my most favorite movie..I opened the DVD for the first time this past week because my daughter wanted to see it. I have the VHS version and have watched it many times. I purchased the DVD in case the VHS was no longer viable. Sadly this DVD was cracked! As I have had it for a while I cant return it to the seller. It was advertised "used, like new",not so as it was damaged...and now I cant return it..spent 60+ on it.

One of my absolute favorite films. As the title states, it is the story of Antonia and her "line" of descendents, both by blood and by friendship. It's got it all, humor, love (of all kinds), romance, sadness...all the stages of life and the ups and downs that accompany it. Antonia is a homespun heroine for the ages, and Willeke van Ammelrooy is stunning in the title role. The supporting cast are also phenomenal, especially Els Dottermans as Antonia's daughter, Danielle. Highly recommended!

While the movie is an amazing movie that I feel any film student should watch, I do believe that not most will and should be able to handle it. There's a rape scene and a few sex scenes.
The movie is a great coming of age film in a later in life experience. If you're looking for a great German film with aspects you can relate to, watch this movie.

Antonia comes back to her old village after World War ll with her daughter. She's heard her mother is dying.
This movie, subtitled, touched me with the sometimes strange characters. Antoni's line has a lot of heart♡

After watching Antonia's Line with a group of friends, I couldn't wait to view it again. In fact, I rushed home and ordered it from Amazon. I have joyfully shared it with others. It is an uplifting and thoroughly enjoyable movie. Not only is the story extremely appealing, but the cinematography is outstanding. The Dutch actors are so finely cast. Surprisingly, the subtitles do not impede one's enjoyment of the movie. I absolutely love this movie and want to share it with the world.

Great Movie, Really Bad DVD Version
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 4, 2015
I love the movie Antonia`s line and wanted a version with English subtitles so I bought this one. However, I am a little bit disappointed.
First of all, the subtitles are not at the bottom of the movie as it is usually the case. Throughout the movie there is a black border around the actual film in which the subtitles are displayed. As a consequence the movie format is only half as big as it would usually be if I had bought a version without subtitles. You need a really big TV set to enjoy this movie in a decent size. When I read the description here on Amazon, it was also not mentioned that the movie got "censored". During at least one of the scenes that show some skin, the screen suddenly goes black for a few seconds. As soon as the moment in which you could see the skin is over, the movie continues as usual.
Even though the movie is region-free, it seems to be a Korean product judging from its cover. The DVD jacket looks like someone had scanned in an original version and printed a copy on a cheap printer that is incapable of sharp images and true colors.
I still love the movie. I think it is a real masterpiece, but if I wanted another copy with English subtitles, I would not buy this one but I would try to get another version somewhere else. Five stars for the movie itself, but only 1 one star for this DVD version - So, 3 stars on average.

Fantastically original

This is a film not only for women, as the title might suggest, but really great entertainment for everyone who is looking for more than mere entertainment and action.
A biitersweet family history taking us all the way to the Dutch country side, which is depicted as astonishingly tolerant considered the time, with the open mindedness of the main characters being something that comes naturally, it will take the viewer by surprise.
Dealing with topics such as rape, single mothers, promiscuety, homosexuality, double morals, women's rights, discrimination against disabled people and life on a farm in the Netherlands as we have never seen it.
Simply a very entertaining and sophisticated film.

this film is great, but this version is censured!!!!! nothing indicates in the package that some scenes have been censured. There are parts of the film with nudity that are black out. Very disappointing.

Beautiful movie.

I love this movie. This was the only version I could find so I'm happy.
The storyline, acting and the music are superb.
Please note that one scene (with a female nude) is quite obviously censored.
