All Lily wants to do is run a B&B in the big house she inherited. Admittedly the locals think she's responsible for a curse on the town, and every bit of bad luck they have... but her guests will be tourists, not locals. Everything should be just fine, especially if she has a nice, smooth, quiet opening.

Whoever is responsible for turning the B&B's opening into an entertaining whodunit is about to discover Lily Goode isn't going down without a fight.

This is a laugh out loud story, with entertaining family dynamics, hilarious misfiring magic, the ultimate in eccentric family members and ghosts... and tucked in amidst that humor is a huge amount of heart. So glad I visited (Un) Lucky Valley.

Okay, I don't love Lily's family (they're kind of gently slacking freeloaders, for the most part), but I totally understand the underlying issues that make them act the way they act. On the plus side, they managed to grow up to be (mostly) contributing members of society and considering the things their mother put them through that's a total win. (To be fair in that regard, we haven't yet met the one sister, so maybe she's battier than a bucket of screws. I dunno. Only time will tell with that.)

Also to be fair, part of the problem lies with Lily. She avoids issues she doesn't want to deal with and isn't great about communicating and, honestly, she seems like she's just waiting for Nolan to decide she's not worth the trouble and leave her high and dry. Which is a not so great mental place to be in when you've invited the dude into your house and decided to go halfsies on a new business.

For a guy who turns into a ravening beast once a month, Nolan's pretty understanding of Lily's idiosyncrasies. And once he sees exactly why she does some of the things she does, he's even more understanding. What can I say? I like the guy.

A little murder, a little mayhem, a little magic. Good stuff.

This cozy mystery has it all. There are thieves, a murdered guest, witches, a werewolf and a hysterical Aunt Polly ( who could give Uncle Raibeart a run for his money, except 1 small thing).
It's opening weekend and poor Lilly has to deal with so much. Not only the aforementioned, excluding the werewolf. Nolan is her very sweet and helpful boyfriend. She is dealing with "family" members who just occupy guest rooms and don't lift a finger to help. Plus, as a newbie witch her magic is going a tad haywire so now she has to deal with everything that entails as well. Least we not forget, Aunt Polly is there to help.......what else could possibly go wrong? Does Lilly and her B and B make it past opening weekend? You'll have to read to find out. You'll be glad you did.
This is a page turning, quick read that I just couldn't put down. It's highly recommend.

I really enjoyed the everlasting series. Generally, I read cozy paranormal mysteries to relax and escape. The traumatic flashbacks in this series detract from my enjoyment. Overall, Lily has a quality of desperation that is exactly the kind of emotion that I'm avoiding. I want to escape into a world where there are adventures and kindness, not images of terrified hungry children. I do human services work, and I get enough trauma narratives without them being sprinkled into escapist literature as a trope to increase the tension.

I hope that the author continues the series but lightens up the tone.

I'm just delving into the book world of Michelle Pillow, but I have to say her stories are fun, her characters are eccentric with just enough personal trauma to make them relatable, and the plot twists are entertaining.
I love the supernatural setting, the familiar are interesting (A lobster and a raccoon, brilliant), and the gnomes still have me questioning whether they're animate or inanimate.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Luckily though the grand opening is off to a good start with a full house but then the bad luck.curse strikes again as things start to.go missing from only the guests rooms, and their first review gets only one star. Lily upset over such a bad start is checking in with Him and work on the cottages when she finds herself drawn to the one they're using for storage. The bad luck continues when she finds a dead body in there. It's the guest who left the bad review, Lily thought she'd left hours ago. There's no option but to report what is obviously a suspicious death to the police but apart from possibly having a murderer under her roof Lily is also left with worrying over whether this will.destroy their new buisness. Mayhem ensues as Lily, Dante, and Mira try to use their fledgling magic skills to find the killer while also.relying on Aunt Polly for help. Nolan is left feeling as if Lily is drifting away from him and is worried their relationship is too new to survive such strain.
