Anything You Can Do was a breath of fresh air for so many reasons. I absolutely love a good enemies to lovers romance and this one was PERFECTION. I'm a sucker for a good office romance and RS Grey's refreshing spin on such a popular trope was EVERYTHING. In a reading climate where everything feels like it follows the same mold, where stories overlap in my head, where books rarely stand out, Anything You Can Do was a refreshing change of pace. Enemies to lovers romances, especially in the workplace, is fast becoming such a popular trend and it's a theme I can't get enough of. But RS Grey's spin stands out. This story line feels new and shiny and fresh while still hitting all the buttons I crave.
These characters. Enough said. They're quirky and funny and their chemistry is on fire.
The WRITING. A storyline can be hit or miss but it's an author's writing style that really determines if I'll pick up their other books. Grey's writing blew me away. The writing in this book is so sharp, so brilliant, so damn SMART. I was an insta-fan from page ONE. I got lost in these words, in the story they illustrated, in the feelings they pulled out of me. I can't wait to dive into her other work.
The romance. This story was SO steamy, so sweet, so perfectly paced. The push and pull was spot on. The evolution of this story line couldn't have been done more superbly. From start to finish, this story held me captive with the sharp banter and the sexual tension between these characters. Their romance is magic. I loved it.
It's SO rare that I'm blown away by a RomCom. I like a RomCom when I'm in the mood, but typically I'm a reader that prefers a deep, though-provoking story full of angst and heart. It's rare to be able to check off all those boxes in one book. This book is laugh out loud funny, completely heart warming, but it's also layered beautifully and it tugs at the heartstrings in that pleasurable, painful way I love. This book has it all. it's the full package and I cant say how much I loved it enough.
Anything You Can Do is a humorous, light enemies to lovers romance between two doctors working at the same clinic.
Even though I've never really clicked with this author, this love-hate story was too hard to pass up. I didn't love it, but that's because it was just too light for me. It wasn't gritty nor developed enough for me.
Lucas and Daisy were enemies from day one.
"Lucas Thatcher and I have been in competition with each other since day one. Yes, the actual day one, the day on which we were born, all of 58 minutes apart."
If you like this author, I don't think you'll be disappointed. The writing style was humorous and entertaining.
"He smells like he just showered in the wilderness and dried off with freshly laundered woodland creatures."
Their relationship was too superficial. There was NO CUDDLING. That's like a hard limit for me there. It was too washed over, and lacked everything for me to really connect with it.
But again, if you enjoy this author, give this one a try.
I LOVE the enemies to lovers trope and I've been lucky to read THREE amazing ones in 2017. This was one of them. I was literally laughing out loud with Daisy and Lucas's hijinks, even if it was deliciously over the top at times.. I loved their banter and the way they played off of each other. Their chemistry was believable and the way things progressed between them was damn near perfect. Things got hot and sexy and the angst was on the low side, both of which were much appreciated by me.
This is one of those books I will reread many times in the future. It was light and fun and I just can't recommend it highly enough!
