Solid. Rock steady with one easy mod.

Solid metal, nicely welded. I immediately replaced the foam grips that everyone complains about (just pull an edge up and cut off safely with scissors) with these Retrospec Bicycles Urban/Fixed Gear Grips (B006A9YUFQ) -- pour some rubbing alcohol/isopropyl alcohol into the grip, swirl it around and then pour it out onto the bar spreading it around and the new grips will slip on easily -- be sure to leave the rubber end caps ON! as this will protect the bike grips from the metal edges and leave a solid end... wait for the alcohol to dissipate (your time will vary), and the grips will bond in place and set-up nice and solid. Just straighten them out while they're still slippery and you'll have a rock steady work out of your wrists and forearms with this really solid piece of equipment.

This $15 device is great for isolating forearms for a killer workout! I took off the foam grips and put on rubber BMX bike grips, able to get a much better grip now. I also hung it from cargo straps from Home Depot to isolate my forearms. I simply took the loop end of the strap and put it around the bar. The hook end of the strap is hanging from ceiling hooks. By far the best forearm workout I have found yet!

The only thing I don't like is the way the rope coils while you are pulling up the wait. It tends to move the workout toward the arm that the rope is coiling towards. A flat strap would work much better....that will be the next mod.

Also, I can see how these are arriving with missing parts. My washer and nut were rolling around free in the Amazon box. I assumed they fell out of the cheap clamshell package.

Please read the review that talks about using rubbing alcohol bike grips to replace the foam. If you do so you will be much happier with this product. The foam is not so great but if you cut it off, apply the alcohol and new bike grips it works great. FYI the alcohol will dry quick so pour some in the grip and cover the hole so it does not leak out, also have a towel handy so you can get a good grip when you try to push the bike handles on. FYI: If you have any cuts on your the alcohol does wonders for helping you find then, LOL.

My wrists and forearms have never felt so blasted. But seriously, as someone who doesn't buy into "gimmicky" items, this simple piece of equipment is by far the most effective way of building wrist and forearm strength and mass. The quality of this particular item is somewhat uninspired and it's more difficult than expected to find a decent version of it. I went with this one and am mostly satisfied, after a few months the padded handles have started to spin freely unless gripped extremely tightly. Though, the rope and weight spindle are still fine.

This thing is perfect for working out for your forearms and grip. You have to make sure to periodically tighten the bolt that is holding the weight on the rope though because it does slowly unscrew itself when you are using it. But it usually take about 2 weeks of using it everyday to really notice it coming loose. I haven't put really heavy weight so i cannot tell you whats the maximum weight on this but I've just been using a 5lbs plate and that is WAY more than enough for me.

I have no complaints with this forearm blaster. It's decently made, and seems like it'll last quite a long time. The grips DO slip once you get to around 10 lbs or higher, but if you keep your hands firm onto them, they shouldn't simply slide right off. One star knocked off for that. I've seen others change the grips out with their own, and that seems like a cool alternative. The grips on this one have a fairly bad smell to them and that smell tends to leech onto your hands after the workout. I can't really complain too much about that, though, because I wash up after my gym sessions anyway. There's not much else to say about it other than that it works and does what it should.

This is just what I was looking for to aid developing my forearms. This piece of equipment is not available at my gym so I was using dumbbells to do wrist curls. My form was neither satisfactory nor providing the improvement in strength I was seeking. Forearm strength is required when biking using aerobars.

Unlike most low-star-reviewers of this product, mine did actually come with all the parts in the box. I made sure to be gentle when handling this product because I could tell it wasn't the greatest quality, especially the part that holds the weights, which is arguably the most important. I used this probably 3 times a week, and the grips began to wear out after about 3 months, when I started getting black residue on my hands following use. At 4 months, the product became unusable after the threads for the nut on the very bottom became stripped and would no longer support any weight. The 2 threaded parts on this product should be thicker and more durable.

Now I'll be looking for a different "forearm blaster" to replace this one.
