I have been using my Aoyue 936 station for a few years now and am thoroughly impressed with it. This was the first temperature controlled station I have ever used so I had a bit of a learning curve to begin with. I do work on a wide variety of things: small hobby projects, automotive electrical repair, power tool repair, game console modification/repair and salvaging components from old through hole electronics to reuse in my own projects. The worst torture I've put this station through was soldering against the ground plane of an Xbox360.
After all of the work it has seen, the station is still working flawlessly. The cord despite being a bit short and tough hasn't ripped out of either end yet. The wand shows no sign of heat damage, a problem I ran into a lot with cheap irons. The tip is just now needing to be re-tinned and even then it's just the one side I tended to favor, the other side still flows nicely. At one point I had to up the bore of the tip to accommodate a slight increase in radius of heating elements (could just be shrinking of the metal over time).
Highly recommend to anyone that buys one to buy a second wand. I made the mistake of using a cheap $5 iron to solder down a new element last time I needed to replace it. While it worked the board didn't handle the runaway heat $5 irons typically have. Would have been much better off tossing the guys at the local electronic shop a few bucks to use one of their irons or just ordering a second wand to do element changes with.

This item worked great for about 8 hours, now for some reason the unit turns off when moved even a little bit. I have to wiggle the power cord to put it back on and reheat the iron. Unacceptable!!!

I've been using this iron for a while and have to say I'm pretty happy with its performance. It heats up pretty quickly. The tip it came with is just the right size for all the soldering I do, which is mostly Arduino projects. I finally got rid of the sponge, purchasing one of the dry, steel wire tip cleaners. I found a couple of magnets I salvaged from a scrapped DVD burner which keeps the tip cleaner firmly in place where the sponge holder used to be. I don't know why but the fastener that holds the tip seems to loosen with use. I've worked with other irons that do this to but is one of the reason I didn't give five stars.

Just as the title suggests, I ordered 3 of these for a soldering workshop I teach. I've used the Hakko 936 a good bit, and really like it, so I thought this would be a good option that would allow us to get more irons for our small budget. Two worked well right out of the box and will be our best irons, beating out the Elenco station and the budget Wellers we also have. The third just didn't heat up. I have yet to try replacing the heating element, which is probably the culprit. Luckily they include a spare, but it's still very annoying that a new product didn't work right out of the box.
The other mysterious thing that isn't explained in the instructions is how to attach the plastic "handle" that's included to the iron holder. It seems like it just sits there without actually being attached to anything-- there is no hardware that secures it, nor any gaps that it would slip into. So it's useless as a handle, if that is even it's intended use!

I wanted to learn to solder and I thought that a soldering station would be more forgiving than a normal iron with no temp setting. I was pleasantly surprised how well this station works. the iron heats up quickly and holds heat very well even when soldering multiple points. My favorite part of the station is the iron holder. You don't have to worry about the iron getting knocked off of a stand or getting burned by it and it has a solder spool holder.I know they are simple things but make a huge difference. All in all this is a great station for the price.

So I've recently started getting more into electronics so I was looking for a very nice soldering iron for not so much money. I stumbled across this and figured it was about as good as they came for the price. After getting it and trying a few things, I've got mixed emotions...
The good: It heads up rather quickly and even comes with another element when the original ones wears out. Temperature control is basic but very functional. The unit does also appear to truely regular heat rather than simply applying more or less wattage, so that's another plus.
The bad: The handle becomes too hot to handle after using for some time. I measured it at a staggering 100*F after being run for about 10 minutes; and yes, this is around the rubber area you're supposed to handle. Also, given the price, I suppose it's more/less disposible, but I wonder how easy it'd be to find replacement parts. If nothing else, tips.
If it weren't for the heat, I'd probably keep it...

I researched many soldering stations before I purchased this unit. I was on a tight budget and this fell right into my price line. The directions are very clear and include breakdown diagrams for repair and cleaning. Also included was a replacement heating element. The unit heats up very quickly. This was a great upgrade from my old solder pencil.
As a side note, the included holder does work, it goes in at a angle and sets very securely. As for heat, I have not noticed any extreme heat on the handle.
Overall I am very satisfied with this unit and I am impressed with the build quality. If you are on a tight budget as I was, this would be a good purchase!
UPDATE, 03/25/2014: I thought I would post an update to how the Iron is working. It works GREAT! I still stand behind my original review and if this unit ever does go out I would not hesitate to buy another one! For context of my usage I am using the Iron to build small DC based projects. The Iron has been reliable from day one and I use it at least 3-4 times a month with an average session of 2-4 hours at a time. Also, at this time I have not replaced the heating element!Even more surprising, I am still using the original tip that came with the iron!

Apenas llevo 2 meses con esta estacion y me a funcionado bastante bien, lo unico que no me gusto de ella es el deposito de agua en donde se pone la esponja, esta algo flojo.

Im a Rf technologist, so I have used a number of different stations. I baught this for my teenage son. It is a really good setup for the price. It heats quickly and has good temp variability and stability. If you are a professional that solders alot you might want somthing else but if not this is a great piece. If you want better than this you will spend at least double the price for somthing else.

Works great!

Works great! Has revolutionized soldering for me. Heats to set temp quickly and dial is in degrees C and F, which is handy. Comes with a spare heating element. Stand is very sturdy. All controls and indicators are on the front, unlike some of the lower models. Handle doesn't get very hot after long usage periods either.

timely delivery..
Bewertet in Kanada am 18. Dezember 2016
The order arrived in good time and had been very well packed and showed no sign of damage. I have used it only 3 or 4 times for a total of 40- 45 minutes. Was then discovered there were small parts rattling around the interior of the power unit. As turned out the tip calibration pot had fallen apart. Needless to say...very discouraging. The unit was sent to the NA agent responsible for repair. Intentions were to replace the pot or/and the board on which it was mounted. As turns out the entire unit was not worthy of repair and so a replacement is now enroute. In such situations it is this manufacturer's policy to replace with ' reconditioned ' units. Must confess there is a fair bit of disappointment over the whole story. Especially when original thought was to simply replace a pot worth pennies. The warranty people were very prompt with the repair, though the owner is on the hook for freight "to" the shop. Reaction of the warranty people is the reason these unit rate any stars from me. If such matters are common with this manufacturer, there is reason to hope that maybe a reconditioned unit may be in better shape than new. That's twisted way to think, but, kind of lightens up what has turned into a kind of grey experience. Time will tell ,estimated delivery of the box is 3 more days.

Works well, good purchase for a good price

Heats up very fast and makes soldering very easy. Great value for the price. Only thing to watch out for is the connection of the iron to the base, screws in tight but the wire is very loose in the connector, rectified this by adding electrical tape to make it more secure. Again great solder station for the price in Canada. Shouldn't be disappointed.
