There are 3 things I want to point out:
1. There is a shipping screw on the underside of the unit that must be removed before use. There is supposed to be a label across the IEC power connector at the back that alerts you to this but double check this before you power on. On my unit the shipping screw was covered with a red circle sticker indicating that it is the screw to remove. The manual does not mention this screw!
2. The soldering iron has a black protective cover installed on the tip, make sure and remove this before you power on otherwise you will melt it!
3. I was disappointed by the suction/hot air tool airflow at first. Using the hot air I could not get the airflow ball to rise more than halfway. I was puzzled until I understood the way the airflow works: When the hot air tool is on, it sucks in air FROM the soldering iron fume extractor and sends it to the hot air tool. There was a kink in the fume extractor tubing (where one of the clips attach) that was restricting airflow. Straightening out the kink restored proper airflow - the ball now reaches the top at full air. Check your air tubing for kinks if you have low air! Again, the manual does not mention this.
Will have to wait on longer term reliability, I will update review as time passes. If you need a through hole desoldering tool I recommend the Hakko FR300-05/P Desoldering Tool
I hope you have found this helpful!
I've had mine for about a year - I'm a light hobby user who occasionally needs to use hot air for rework and other purposes.
Professionally I used to use Metcal and Hakko stuff, and while this is certainly less pro, it's 100% okay for me.
The general build quality of the machine is good, the hoses are okay, the ergonomics are okay.
Assembly and operation are easy.
The compressor that drives the vacuum is fairly loud. Whatever, compressors are always loud.
Five stars for sheer *value* -- it's so nice to have built-in fume extraction and hot air! I've gotten great use out of this machine for circuit and household repairs, and stuff that requires a specific hot air temp, which is tough to get with a bulky hardware-store heat gun.
This being a modestly-powered iron, it's not going to solder your pipes or other big heavy stuff, nor does it claim to. Again, great for typical electronics use. If you have to solder massively thick copper cables, get something burlier and purpose built.
At only a tiny price difference versus a standalone iron, this is a great choice, and comes with just about everything you need aside from consumables like solder, wick, flux and tip tinner. The only reason I'd consider a standalone iron would be if I had limited desk space and didn't need extraction.
I bought both units. I haven't yet used the Desoldering Gun (but soon will), and the 968A+ I received this week and put it through its paces. What a revelation! While I've not yet attempted SMD soldering, the machine looks quite capable. But it is the soldering iron I'm raving about! It comes with ten different tips; in conical, beveled, and chiseled, and in differing sizes down to (I think) 0.5-mm. For the first time I was soldering with a precision instrument, having the perfect tip for the job, and being able to precisely set the tip's temperature so that I could obtain a great solder joint without risking overheating the board or component. I can only describe the experience in superlatives, such as being a master mechanic who now has a shop full of precision tools instead trying to drive a screw with a hammer. Or like the late Ansel Adams' description of the "fine print:" There is a sense of satisfaction and completeness looking at it, whereas with all other prints there is a nagging sense of lack. Using the 968A+'s soldering iron gave me a sense of completeness and satisfaction to my work I never had before.
Aoyue makes 30 different tips that fits this machine. I'll definitely be purchasing those. They also sell replacement heating elements for both the hot air gun and the soldering iron. I'll be purchasing extra of those as well.
Aoyue also makes "soldering tweezers" that fits this unit. While primarily for SMD work, because of my lack of experience I don't know how useful they would be, but I'll probably be purchasing them as well.
Finally, my electronics-repair tools and 8800 Desoldering Gun come with carrying cases. The 968A+ does not. Therefore, I will be purchasing a sturdy camera case large enough to securely pack the entire system (including extra tips and the tweezers) so that nothing gets lost when it's not in use, as well as to conveniently take it to our amateur-radio club when we have "kit / antenna builds." I'm currently looking at the Xit XTHC60, which is appropriately sized to fit this soldering station. Xit XTHC60 Large Hard Photographic Equipment Case with Carrying Handle and Wheels (Black)
In summary, I enthusiastically recommend the Aoyue 968A+. This is one of those tools where you wonder how you ever got along without it. My only regret is that I didn't purchase it sooner!

-The vacuum pickup tool is not independent, and must be attached to the soldering station to be used
-The smoke absorber also uses the same port as the vacuum tube.
-The digital controls for the hot air section doesn't increase/decrease the temperature a degree at a time, but by multiple degrees (which isn't particularly important, as the distance you hold the hot air gun from the component affects the amount of heat transferred)
-The soldering iron temperature control knob allows increasing/decreasing temperature by a degree at a time
-The soldering iron temperature range is 180 degrees Celsius to 480 degrees Celsius.
-The hot air temperature range is 90 degrees Celsius to 480 degrees Celsius.
This station includes a lot of parts. The station I received included (for confirmation):
-The hot air station + 5 nozzles
-The soldering iron + 10 tips + 1 tip cap
-Smoke absorber, which can be detached from the iron (more on this)
-Soldering iron stand + solder spool + brass wool with container to hold wool + sponge with container to hold sponge
-IC popper + vacuum pickup tool with 3 tips + spare heating element
What I liked:
-The soldering iron heats up quickly and when you turn it off, it displays that it is still hot.
-The hot air section also heats up quickly
-Comes with lots of tips and nozzles
-The stand is solid, the solder spool rolls smoothly and it has a brass wool for cleaning the soldering iron tip (no thermal shocking)
What I disliked:
-The hose for the hot air is somewhat short, measuring a little more than 3 feet from unit to top of the air gun (without nozzle).
-The smoke absorber can be a bit of a hindrance when soldering. When removing the smoke absorber, the metal nozzle
for the smoke absorber has to be detached from the hose, which is only held on by some weak glue. It also requires
removing a screw, and it leaves the soldering iron is left with an empty plastic "sleeve" meant to hold the smoke absorber pen
in place, still leaving the iron a little awkward. Without the smoke absorber, the iron sits awkwardly in the stand.
-The vacuum tool has to be attached to the station, requiring that you unscrew the smoke absorber. It should be stand alone
-The screw that attaches the soldering iron to the station is easy to screw on, but difficult to screw off. Might be just my station.
I really do like this station and I mainly use it for hot air rework. I use the soldering iron in conjunction with my
Weller WES51, as that one is more comfortable to use, but this one has more tips, more precise temperature control
and a better stand. I like the idea of the smoke absorber, but I think it could have been better implemented.
I didn't like how much the unit vibrated and the noise it made. Looking for a fix I discovered that on the underside there is a screw that might only be needed for shipping because all it seems to do is hold down the pump bracket which looks like it should move freely. Removing the screw allowed the pump move freely in the case instead of transferring all the vibration to it greatly reducing it's noise and vibration during operation.
