Swiss Spear Glass pH Probe for Direct Food pH Test
Built with proprietary pH sensor from Switzerland, this spear pH probe is designed for direct pH test of food samples such as cheese, meat, fruit, dough, sushi-rice, and other soft solid samples such as growth medium, cosmetics, etc. (does not work with soil direct test)
Simply insert the spear probe into your sample (>1 inch above the blue tip), wait for the stable pH reading, then take the measurement. Say goodbye to slurry making.
This replaceable spear probe typically lasts 12-24 months thanks to the long-life reference system and anti-clogging junction structure, which give you stable and quick readings in protein-containing samples. This probe also works just as well in general water solutions.
IP67 water resistant rating, ideal for use in harsh environment.
Easy-to-install Replaceable Probe
Saving money in the long-run (don't have to toss the entire meter when the probe is not working anymore)
Up to 2000 hours of operation powered by AAA batteries
Installation: All 4 pieces of batteries' positive sides (+) must face up.
Large Clear Backlit LCD
Dual display of pH& Temp., and icons indicating stable readings and completed calibrations.

Apera Instruments PH60S Pocket pH Tester simply measures the pH level of food samplings such as cheese, sushi rice, meat, fruit, milk, yogurt, sauce, and other solid/semi-solid samples like cosmetics, and solid growth media in a reliable and quick manner (Also works great for general water solution's pH measurement). The probe adopts Swiss LabSen sensor technology, featuring a spear glass membrane with a long life reference system (polymer electrolyte), built-in temperature sensor, and a double-junction structure, which makes the probe more durable and have a longer service life . Up to 3 points (4. 00, 7. 00, 10. 01) of auto. calibration with 0 to 50˚C auto. temperature compensation (ATC), 0. 01 pH, 0. 5˚C accuracy with -2. 00 to 16 00 pH range, auto. recognition and reminders of stable values improve reading consistency, saving you the trouble of guessing when to manually hold measurement (auto-hold function available). The product is CE and RoHS certified, and is manufactured under an ISO 9001: 2015 certified quality system.

Here are the downsides of this meter: The tip is always supposed to be sitting in the KCl solution when not in use (just like most pH meters). This means the probe has to be stored upright, but the case stores it horizontally. I really wish they would have designed a vertical case for this purpose. So I end up having to store the probe outside of the case. I bumped it once by accident and it fell to the floor and the batteries came out. There was a slight damage to the battery connector plate, so it will no longer lock in place. It still works with the cap firmly in place, but still, this would have been prevented if they had a case for properly storing the probe upright.
The amount of KCl solution included is a joke. Seriously, for a $200 meter, they could have given a bit more!
But I still love this meter and it makes me a more informed baker. I'm also a biochemist, and haven't seen a better spear meter for this price.
Issue one: Doing everything by the instruction book, the unit quickly began to take well over a minute to register the "smiley face" indicator. It's not feasible to hold a pH wand in a sample for over a minute to achieve a reading.
Issue two: The plastic immediately surrounding the glass probe has 4 negative spaces which collect and hold particles of the biomass being tested. No matter what I did, how thoroughly I cleaned the unit, I always found debris floating in the storage solution, which obviously affects calibration, and quite possibly might be related to issue #1.
I returned the unit. For the price I should get accurate readings in 5 seconds, not ballpark readings after 90 seconds. I have no idea why this device has 4 recesses that the sample substrate against the glass bulb after rinsing thoroughly. If it wasn't for that design flaw I would've considered exchanging or warranting the unit due to the extended result time, but that issue in combination with an obvious design flaw has made me decide to avoid Apera all together. I also returned an unused Apera EC meter, I was so disappointed in, dumbfounded by that obvious design flaw.
