One of the world's great films -- but in this copy, it's without the closing sequence -- credits & destruction of Kurtz's compound. Bad form for a movie of this stature

The formatting was difficult for my Blue Ray player to read and it caused the disc to boot up slowly and have glitches during playing.

TOP 100 REVIEWERon February 25, 2015
This is a major error by Amazon to combine the original and the redux

Apocalypse Now and Apocalypse Now Redux should not have their reviews grouped together because they are absolutely not the same movie.

Apocalypse Now is absolute art. It is one of the most interesting films of all time with some of the most interesting visuals and characters. The brilliance of how the story gradually transforms from something that's very realistic into something that's out of the Twilight Zone at the same pace that Martin Sheen's character is losing his own connection to reality is absolutely stunning. It is a masterpiece of film.

Apocalypse Now Redux is proof that the Oscar for best editing should have gone to the theatrical release of Apocalypse Now. It's basically a Director's Cut of Apocalypse Now. It's Coppola's original vision. The problem is that every single element and scene that was added back into AN:R was rightfully cut from the theatrical release. All the added elements made the film harder to follow, really weird, and worst of all flat out boring. The addition of the French family living in the Vietnam jungle in their mansion pretending that everything outside was perfectly normal was just odd. It added nothing to the story and just felt out of place. Just about ever added scene can be described in that way.

I gave this review 3 stars as an average. Apocalypse Now is easily worth SEVEN stars. Redux is worth NEGATIVE ONE. They average out to 3.

Amazon really needs to separate the two films' reviews. Unlike most director's cuts where a few scenes are added back in that generally suck but can be ignored and don't totally ruin the movie, the added scenes in Redux change the entire story of the film, add about 47 hours to it, and make it unwatchable junk. The reviews of the 2 films are not comparable.

I watched this on a without knowing what it was and didn't really think it was that great. Apparently it's a classic? It just seemed like another war movie to me.

Too long!!! The original was done correctly. The included scenes make it painful. Stick to the cinema version.

My husband wanted to watch it again. I don't like it. Too bloody, too long. But he likes it.

Parts of this movie are bloviated bovine excrement. And parts are amazing. I rarely make it all the way through this movie or the redux version anymore. Heavyhanded and clunky attempt to take Heart of Darkness into the 20th Century. But enough moments of good cinema to make it worth watching. Once.
