CPT Benjamin Willard, an Army Intelligence Officer, is returned to Vietnam in 1970 at his own request for a second tour of duty. He wants a mission, and gets one: to assasinate Green Beret Colonel Walter Kurtz who is waging his own war at the head of "native" troops in Cambodia, but who has gone "insane," ordering the assasination of Vietnamese double-agents, two of whom were Colonels in the South Vietnamese Army. The film, which is transparently based on the Joseph Conrad novella, "The Heart of Darkness," traces Willard's own mental and moral deterioration as he travels up a jungle river in search of the enigmatic Kurtz.

A film where everyone-actors, director, support staff of every denomination produced a masterpiece. This is Citizen Kane or Annie Hall in Viet Nam. Perfect in both iterations and the documentary. Buy it, be entertained and amazed, and learn a few things.

Main character sucks and I was expecting somethinng more along the lines of we were soldiers in terms of realism.wasted my time ,this movie has the worst ending and they completely dropped the ball towards the end of the movie.

We live in an age of CG effects; will a film like this ever be made again? Not likely for there is no courage like this is existence any longer. Humanity takes patience.
