Yes, the story could be just another well worn "apocalyptic future" type comic, but that is really more of just a backdrop here, and because of the art style and the main character's interactions with her cat the whole thing comes off somewhat lighthearted (well, as much as an apocalyptic book with warring sub-human tribes can be I guess :) ). There is nothing truly groundbreaking, but enough original, different, and quirky aspects to it so that it still seems fresh. This is "comic books" at its most fun, not so serious that it seems overly artsy but still serious enough so that it is more than a glorified newspaper cartoon.
Can't really think of anything negative to say about it except at a 6"x9" size it's a little on the small side, but also looked like it was designed and drawn to be that way. Fun stuff you won't regret! Dark Horse / 88 pages.

More of a 4.5 out of 5, but I rounded up to 5.
This small sized graphic novel has stylized art that you get used to in just a couple of panels. There is just enough action and violence to satisfy those who like action. The world is lush, imaginative, and portrayed in beautiful colours. Just enough is explained and not everything is revealed - enough to leave you feeling satisfied. As soon as I finished, I reread it. I loved the main character Aria and her cat Jelly Beans. I still have some questions, but that's okay. Just another excuse to flip through this gorgeous little book to try and seek the answers.
