The resurrection is the central miracle of Christianity, but according to the gospels no one saw it happen. Apparitions of Jesus: The Resurrection As Ghost Story discusses this and other curious aspects of the resurrection accounts, but concentrates on the ghost lore of Jesus' time and how it has impacted the gospel accounts. The gospels of Luke and John in particular appear to have used elements of ghost stories to flesh out (pun intended) their narratives: sudden appearance and disappearance, a body that is solid to the touch but able to pass through barriers, and the surprise, confusion, and disbelief of witnesses.
This is a short book, a relatively easy read with a glossary of Greek and Latin terms for ghosts, and over 25 pages of references. It's lively, interesting, and well researched. Highly recommended!
