Before I was getting jars and filling each one and praying the girls didn't knock them over, and they were just keeping the brushes in the water, causing my handles to mush up sometimes (I but cheap brushes, and this was one reason why lol)
They would crush the bristles trying to get the paint out and just ugh... Nightmare! So I got these. Let me explain why and a little about the product for someone who isn't familiar with these.
This is probably like 6 inches wide, square tub. Half of this tub has little grooves like a mini washboard on the bottom. This is where you put the water. This washboard like thing allows you to move the brush back and forth over it, and ENCOURAGES this from anyone using the tub so they don't get the urge to DIP AND CRUSH a brush. The grooves feel like they are meant to be used, so I found the girls without even prompting moving their brushes back and forth exclaiming about how clean their brushes were getting. Made me smile.
The OTHER side of the tub is for storing brushes that you've cleaned off. This allows excess water to drip down in the bottom while keeping the bristles and more importantly, the handles out of water. The groves on THIS side are meant for the metal part of the brush to sit right in, preventing the bristles from doing down to the bottom of the pail. The little groves on the rim on that side allow the handle to rest there so that while it doesn't snap into place, it rests comfortably and prevents rolling from side to side too much. You can fit up to 6 brushes in there at once I think, so you can manage your whole paint piece with that.
The only DOWNSIDE to a device like this is that there really isn't much water in this small of a tub, so the water gets muddy really fast. Depending on the painting and size of the painting that I'm doing I will sometimes get either a second, with clean water, or break down and get a jar if it's just me painting and put clean water in it so I will wash in the tub, then wash again in clear if i want a really clean brush for something. (This is because I'm a lazy painter and don't want to get my fat tail up to go empty the water! But you could JUST as easily just go empty the dang water and refill!)
