I've always been aware that apple cider vinegar is an integral ingredient in many different recipes. And Suzy Scherr's apple cider vinegar recipes in this book are magnificent and unique, ranging from enticing dressings, salads, and pickled dishes -- such as sesame miso vinaigrette, creamy broccoli slaw, and pickled green beans; to energizing drinks -- such as fire cider and a homemade sports drink; to delicious desserts -- such as baked apple cider doughnuts and an eggless chocolate bundt cake (aka crazy cake). What I did not know before learning about Suzy Scherr's book is that apple cider vinegar has so many non-food uses. Now when I get a sunburn, I'm going to use apple cider vinegar to relieve it. When I get a stain on my carpet, I'll break out the apple cider vinegar to make it disappear. When I get a sore throat, I'll swig some apple cider vinegar (mixed with honey). And if I get some dandruff, I'll substitute apple cider vinegar for Head & Shoulders. Not only is Suzy Scherr's apple cider vinegar book fun to read and an important addition to our cookbook collection, but it also provides invaluable advice on improving our health, grooming, and home.

Useful and interesting

This is a great book with simple recipes using apple cider vinegar. I have always stored a bottle in the cabinet because I heard it was good for me but wasn't really sure what to do with it. The most creative I've got on my own was mixing it with some seltzer. Suzy Scherr opens a world a possibilities from cocktails, to dressings, and even cookies. I like the way the recipes are open to using with a variety of ingredients/add-Ins to make it your own. For cooks interested in exploring the various uses of one ingredient, it's a fascinating read. And for people who want to use more natural products in their home (deodorant!), it's an essential guide. Highly recommended.

I feel healthier already!

I didn't know I needed this book until I read it. But even as someone who doesn't cook that often, I have found many valuable tips and recipes already - I tried the homemade after shave, I love all of the pickles I've tried so far (with a few more pickling as I type), and I am working my way through all of the drinks (especially the ones where a shot of rum or whiskey can be added).

I plan on using the throat soother recipes once the colder weather approaches and already feel healthier just knowing about them! Plus, now I know I've been buying the right kind of acv all these years - all hail "the mother!"

Who knew?!!

I love the book!! I am so glad I was introduced to this folksy, charming, informative book on a subject I never would have considered reading about. Who knew there were so many varied and creative uses for apple cider vinegar!! Apple cider vinegar is quickly becoming a staple in my home and I have begun sharing the book with all my friends. Once you read the book, you will want to do the same.
The only caveat is that when I give the book as a gift, I have to explain that even though the cover makes the book look used....it really is brand new...not second-hand.

A Handy and Inspiring Guide to a Household Staple

This well-designed book is chock-full of appealing recipes and helpful (sometimes surprising!) tips. For example, I had no idea that apple cider vinegar could help soothe a sunburn. I'm looking forward to trying several of the recipes including the Turkish Baby Eggplant Pickles and Summer Raspberry-Peach Shrub. Overall, an excellent addition to my cookbook collection.

Always used apple cider vinegar in slaw recipes and had a bottle on my shelf, but I never realized it could be used in so many things. Like to use natural products and now I got myself some that's raw and unpasteurized. The recipe for the cough syrup worked very well. Looking forward to trying the pickled green beans and onions!

Not Just Another One Purpose Cookbook!

What I love most about The Apple Cider Vinegar Companion is that nearly every recipe comprises ingredients that I already have in my home. I found myself reading this cookbook cover to cover, thinking, I can make that, I can make that! I've long loved using ACV for household fixers (with a little baking soda, an awesome sink declogger!) or beauty regimens (I can personally verify Ms. Scherr's recommendation of ACV as a surprisingly effective hair cleanser and conditioner!), and have fond memories of making a vinegar chocolate cake as a child, reminiscent of the one featured here. I am thrilled to learn from reading this book of its many other uses--the fruit fly trap and stinky house deodorizer recipes recently came in great handy--and in one week, my daughter and I baked and demolished the ACV donuts featured in the book! Highly recommend this cookbook as a great addition to any home library--unlike so many of the "niche-y" cookbooks out there, this one will get pulled off your shelf time and again!
