The case has a larger opening to allow cord type adapters to fit fine, but with this type of adapter it can't reach far enough past the case to get to the receptacle. I just wanted to warn those who have cases for their iPhone that this could be a problem with this type of adapter. In my case, I have to peal the case aside temporarily if I want to use it.
When I got my iPhone 5 I waited a few months for a lightning alarm clock and one never came, I finally decided that apparently no one is going to make one anytime soon (I understand why, since this product would only work with a few new users of the iPhone/iPad. So I bought a generic (no sound, so returned it) and than bought this. This works fine it charges the iPhone (I have the iPhone 5) and I can hear audio or wake up to music through my alarm clock).
My only issue with this is that it snaps or locks onto the iPhone instead of the 30-pin part, so when you remove the device from the alarm clock the adapter comes off in the iPhone, so I have to take it off and push it back into the alarm clock. If you use two hands you can hold the adapter and pull the iPhone 5 off with no problem. However, I often would get it while still in bed (lean over and get the phone, which I can no longer do). I have found that after some time the iPhone seems to come off a little easier than it did when I first got it, but it still occasionally comes off the alarm clock. -- Essentially I think it would be better if the there was no lock mechanism on the adapter or if there was for it to lock to the 30-pin side not the iPhone.
In the end this product works and I can use my 30-pin alarm clock. I tried a generic one of this, but it would not transmit audio, so I could not use it. I wish that this was included with the iPhone, but since it is not you will have to buy this if you want to use an alarm clock, since there are none that I can find alarm clocks with the lightning connector.
