I have been doing some extensive testing to get my USB DAC to work with all of my portable devices. I have it working on my Mac, PC, Nexus 7 2013 Android Tablet and now my iPhone 5. I came across the information that the CCK worked with another user's USB DAC on a popular forum. I can confirm that with the official Apple Camera Connectivity Kit, my iPhone 5 on iOS 7.0.3 along with my Fiio E07K Andes USB DAC and Portable Headphone Amplifier Black through my Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO, 80 ohms digital audio output is streaming through my DAC!

For the DAC to function properly, I had to disable USB charging in order for the iPhone to accept the connection without the "The attached accessory uses too much power." message. I can also confirm since the iPhone no longer has to power my 80ohm headphones that my battery life has increased by a noticeable amount. YMMV, but as long as your DAC doesn't draw more than 100mA you should be able to jam on the go!

This product works great as a MIDI-USB interface adapter for many digital music keyboards that have a USB port. Just connect a standard USB cable to the keyboard and the adapter to your iPad. Works with most IOS apps that support Core MIDI.

I needed a way to get data into the ipad from certain devices and this is it. Works as advertised. One end is a male lightning connector and the other end is a usb "A" female end. This is advertised as a camera connector and it works for that - but also - with a powered usb hub - you can connect other peripherals. I used it to connect an exterior audio card and it all worked fine...****you do need a powered usb hub and cannot connect peripherals to ipad without an alternate power source.*** If what you want to connect is already powered then you are good to go...if not - get a powered usb hub and you are in business.

Everything works great as expected. Just keep in mind the item will not support the iPhone 5 or the iPod Touch 5th Generation. Will ONLY work for the iPad 4 and the iPad Mini!

I got one of these but from Best Buy since the price on Amazon currently isn't much cheaper and I wanted to make sure I get a legitimate version from Apple. Anyhow, here are my findings on what you can do with the device, to expand on what others have already mentioned. I haven't tested for its original purpose of connecting a camera over USB. You can use it with memory card readers & USB flash drives (the thumb sticks, I haven't tested with portable USB hard drives). However, for these storage devices, it only works under the following conditions: photos (JPG) and movies (MP4?) under DCIM folder, and relevantly named subfolders, and relevantly named filenames for the photos & movies. E.g. must be set up exactly like how your camera would store the files. So if your photos/videos are renamed, it may not show up / be found. That also means that for USB flash drives, you have to copy over the exact same file structure, etc. as your memory card, can't just copy here & there. Additionally, you are only able to import/delete selected photos & import/delete all off the memory card/USB stick. There's no option (or I didn't find it) to export photos/movies from iPad back to storage device. And you will have to connect the memory card readers & USB flash drives through a USB hub that is then connected to this adapter. It won't work if you connect it directly or iOS reports the device requires too much power. Some folks mention using a powered USB hub, but an unpowered one seems to work too. Last, you can use certain other USB devices as well, your mileage may vary. I heard someone mention using a USB mic in another review. For me, I tested with a USB keyboard.Read more ›

This is exactly what I was looking for. I'm a photographer and after my laptop died I was looking at the ipad as an alternative to downloading and viewing my images on the go. I plugged it in and attached my Canon 7D. The import window popped up and I was able to download my RAW images without a problem. Just like Apple to make it simple.
I looked at the other "cheaper" options but I'm happy I paid extra and got the apple brand.

What I like about this is no matter what case I have on my ipad or iphone this adapter will fit and work. Doesn't work with a usb flash drive so that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. But it works with a Midi cable to a piano keyboard, and also a usb microphone for recording.

I purchased this adapter to connect my girlfriend's Sony DSC-H50 camera to her iPad mini. The connection was simple --I used the camera provided USB cable and plugged the USB into the USB port on the adapter. Upon turning on the camera, the iPad started the built-in photos app and asked to import all the photos on the memory card. The only drawback of the adapter, like all Apple branded accessories, is the excessive price.
