I decided pay more than double the price; but it works like a charm.

After market less expensive product issues: I tried few lesser expensive ones; they get hot . I was concerned that devices I connect can potentially be damaged . Not worth saving $12 dollars and taking a chance. After market products have a slew of issues; High resistance in the connector ; either too loose or too tight on the USB side etc.

If you really take care of it and baby it, it can last you a while, but with daily use, especially as an adapter for USB DACs, it will inevitably start to drop out randomly as it is bent at its strain points. I do find taping the strain points with simple electrical tape strengthens the connection a bit, but it looks tacky. However, 3rd party accessories, especially for Apple products, aren't always the most reliable, so if you need something that will absolutely work with your lightning iOS device, and are willing to work with its fragility, this is the adapter to get. Otherwise, there is no difference buying a third party lighting to USB adapter as long as it works correctly and is MFI/OTG, and some are better built than Apple's.

This Apple Camera Adapter is being used to connect a Dexibell Vivo H1 Digital Piano, to an iPad Pro (2017 model). The specific Apps are installed, and appear to work well... except frequently, if the iPad is moved in the tiniest of ways, the connection between iPad and Piano (and the apps) fails. I don't know if it's just a matter of poor quality (it *is* a Genuine Apple Product), or just how it works..., and/or doesn't.
Though I would recommend it to a Friend, I'd do so, with extreme prejudice, warning them of the small limitation, which could ruim entire recordings. I don't believe alternate brands would be any better. I've had this same kind of problem with other similar devices (lightning adapters, connecting to something else) whose designs are so close to each other, but the results (and design flaws) are the same.

I used this product to connect a Yubi key to my iPhone. Yubi key is a secure password device that my employer requires to use their Microsoft Teams app on my iPhone.
Worked right away, no fuss. Apple calls it a camera adapter but it will mechanically connect various devices that need a USB socket. If the device is low power, like YubiKey, iPhone can support the power required by sharing power from iPhone battery.

You can get a non-apple camera adapter for less than half the price that apple sells. They probably work just as good, but I decided to buy the adapter from Apple because I didn’t know if it would work and I wanted to remove worry about quality.
