I got a G5 in the same form factor system case, suped her up, and love it as a media server.
The experience got me so into the product line, I bought this non IBM / phased out like the G5, Intel Miracle Machine.
Under the hood blows my Windows-PC all my life mind...
The specs are amazing, even by today's standards. Video is killer, multitasking is a breeze, the aesthetics of the case are flat out gorgeous.
I will keep the case long after the life span has run its course.
In 3-5 years, if it's starting to wane, I will just Hackintosh it if I have to.
But it's the best, hands down, case, and daily driver rig, and solid builder down the road I have ever seen.
In a previous life, I had been a bench tech for PCs for years. Never dabbled in Macs. Never against it. Just never came up at the job.
I'm a kid in a candy store with this TANK. It's nearly flawless in every practical way and every graceful-tasteful simple beauty way blending in with home or home-office decor.
Probably the last rig I'll ever buy-- because it's the last rig I'll ever need. The thing's timeless. Ten year old design. Still killa.
Amazon price unbeatable. I change the I few thing from the original setup, I added 16 GB of Ram and I might update to 24 or 32 in a near future, I also put one SSD for Boot and apps... 5 second to shutdown and around 10 to 15 sec to boot up to open any application its fast.
Im thinking in getting a Quadro 4000 but I will wait and see how the reviews goes ...
I will update this review in the future if something change ....
Can't go wrong with a MAC.
It's a monster, handles grading 2k video with no stutter or slowdown which is just perfect for what we needed.
Sure you have to pay your "Apple Tax", but like with all Apple products the physical design is worth paying a bit
more for and for some software you just have to have OSX, and throwing hours away at trying to build a stable Hackintosh at a cheaper price is worse for most of us than spending the extra cash and getting a proper machine. Upgrading this thing is like nothing i've experienced in any other machine, it's so beautiful and simple inside i just want to leave the cover off the thing.
It loses a star for being a bit long in the tooth, the MacPro is overdue for an upgrade in all departments.
