Easy to administer from the command line of course but it's nice to have VNC remote desktop as an option as well.
Only major thing to be aware of going in is that the filesharing services only service SMBv2. Windows clients will not have trouble with this but it will break (for now) requests from Linux samba clients, until the maintainers of the linux cifs client project incorporate support SMBv2. Backwards support for SMBv1 would have been nice, but the speed boost with SMBv2 is very noticeable and it's really on the linux developers to get their cifs client caught up to improvements in the technology.
I don't have this model, but bought and continue to use the original Mac mini with Snow Leopard Server. Back then the $1000 price got you the second hard drive instead of a DVD drive over the mid-price model, but Snow Leopard Server OS cost $500, so you were only paying $500 for the hardware! Apple reduced the price of the server $480 but didn't lower the cost of the system at all.
These minis work well as server computers, but I'd recommend buying the "regular" Mac mini and Server app separately to save money.
Outperform latest iMac! Great for professional it home use. Recommending 8GB Memory or above (supports up to 16GB).

Apple should never have discontinued this version. It is still (mid 2015) faster than the current top of the Mac Mini line.Published 11 months ago by Dr. Cyber
One of the best versions of the Mac Mini. Way more powerful than the newer units..Published 17 months ago by Leo Morris
This thing works like a champ, and has more cores than the newest model. Pushes my 30" Apple Cinema Display without issue.Published 21 months ago by Brian P. Green
This is an amazing product. My only complaint, if any, is that the stock RAM isn't really enough to properly run the computer. It was a bit sluggish. Read morePublished on July 18, 2014 by Jonathan McGlade
It is hard to see as I only have 1 eye. I would like to find out where I can get more ram, or commit some virtual memory to ram. Read morePublished on July 11, 2014 by co whitman
First apple product. Works as advertised. Taken time to research how to set up server system but appears to meet my expectations of Apple.Published on May 23, 2014 by Mark D Johnson
We bought this to hook up to our projector and it works great! The internet is fast and everything loads up fast. It's small and compact so it doesn't take up a lot of room.Published on May 22, 2014 by steven
