First, using this book you will be able to pass the color certification test with no problem and since that is the point of this book it serves its purpose well. That being said, there is a way in which this book is a big step backwards compared to the previous book. In this book there is an emphasis on using the color correct 3-way filter in FCP for doing tasks such as scene continuity work. As a post production professional its difficult to imagine why one would choose to do this in FCP when it risks confusing the work flow, the grade management tools provided in Color are so robust, and the luma controls are more refined. So despite everything that is good and right about this book, it spends considerable time advocating a work flow that is far from ideal and that you won't / shouldn't use on real projects. I think its fine to include information about the color correction filters in FCP but not as a central element in the workflow. Other than that this is a really good book and will help new users get up to speed with Color.

This book was a must have for color correction and color grading in Final Cut Pro 7 and its amazing Studio partner-software Color. But since Apple has released the dubious "upgrade" Final Cut Pro X, why bother learning this?
Color was a deep and complex program, a true color grading application. It wasn't the most user friendly program, but its power made it well worth the time to learn. But no more.
Apple killed Color and why bother taking all that time to learn something that is EOL? Even the color correction tips for FCP 7 are worthless, because FCPX dumped the triple color wheels for the clunky color board.
Don't get me wrong. It's a great book and aided me a lot in my adventures in color correction. But sadly, Apple has gone a different direction with the release of FCPX (not necessarily better IMHO). You would be smarter to put the money you might spend on this book into the bank and save up to buy DaVinci Resolve --and it ain't cheap. I mourn the loss of Color.

very helpful book that gives the basics to more advanced color correction techniques in a simple and easy-to-follow manner. highly recommended for any editors out there who want to work more on color for projects that might not have the budget to go to a typical color grading session.
