You might be thinking, is this tablet still worth buying in 2015? I would say the answer is a yes, for several reasons. First of all you can pick one up for $100. If you compare it to other tablets in this price range it has impressive features like a 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen Multi-Touch display with IPS technology. 1024-by-768-pixel resolution as well as being able to enjoy 10 hours of use between charges. It is very well built, solid, and the touch screen accuracy and quality is really unseen in this price range. I have seen reviews where people are complaining about it having IOS 5.1.1 and that being a limiting factor for apps, this is true there are not very many apps available for it anymore. However you can still use any mobile website (m.websitename.com). So for instance, the you tube app is out of date, but you can create a shortcut on your home screen for m.youtube.com which works just fine. Same thing for twitter, facebook and other websites that people complain about the app not working for. I even made one for Amazon's mobile website on mine :) Also I think people should consider the overall quality of this device compared to some cheap chineese tablet for around the same price. These originally cost over $900, so it is a very high quality tablet, something no cheap imitation can say, even if it does use more current apps. I would recommend this tablet for people who do not care about playing games or using the latest apps. It is a very capable tablet for day to day use, like web surfing, turn by turn directions, online bill payment, e-reading, social media, emailing ect...

1st Generation IPad

I was actually very surprised how good of shape this 1st generation IPad was in. Not one scratch on the screen or case, it is ofcourse a little out of date but functions perfectly. It had one vey small ding on the case but that is totally understandable for the age of the IPad. I use it solely for playing an old Infocom text game called ZORK and I could not be happier. 👍

You may not download programs or newly Games
Most of the applications in the Apple Store requires the issuance of ios 8 or higher
You can take advantage of the iPad just to watch YouTube only
Games and applications not supported by the device. Because the old version and can not be updated.

Best ipad for me!

Fantastic product even though it is a bit older. I wanted to purchase an ipad for myself after getting one for my wife. I don't use a lot of apps that use a ton of computing power or need a camera on my ipad so I did not see a purpose in buying a brand new one. I am a photography enthusiest and did however need one with a lot of storage space for my photography and movie collection.
This device fit the bill perfectly and I can use it in conjunction with my eye-fi card! One other thing worth mentioning is that it is getting more difficult to find cases for the older iPad.
If you are looking at this review chances are you have specific needs too.
Suggested philosophy of use:
1) you don't need a camera.
2) you need a lot of storage.
3) you want something the kids or yourself can watch movies on during travel.
4) you don't use a lot of apps. (Some newer games and apps won't work).
5) you want something to check email,social media,and stream movies,read books, and play games on.

I bought this device months ago and wanted to use it for a while before commenting on it. The unit came just as described. It has been working as if it were new. One thing to keep in mind before purchasing this device, the generation 1 model has a very limited software version of iso 5.5, so any apps will not load onto it. In fact there is not much that it can be used for aside from factory loaded apps. I purchased a unit with 64 gigs, so I'm able to listen to all my music and it makes a great companion for my vehicle stereo. So if you're looking for an older model ipad, this would be a good candidate.

Don't bother, nothing will work due to OS

We received iPad in good order, however, due to the OS only 5.1.1, nothing works. No games for this OS, it tells us to upgrade to 6 or 7 to get games. But we can't because the 5.1 is the highest level this iPad can use. So using the Internet is out also. Pages will not load due to the os.
Very disappointed and will return.

Excelente producto aunque tengo que mencionar que su venta es de mala intencion ya que no explican que esta descontinuado y que no se pueden instalar app del appstore yo pude instalarle aplicaciones por otros medios ya que cuento con los conocimientos pero alguien que no sabe compraria un gran prensa papeles

Little trick on installing iBooks and some other iOS 5 apps

There are a lot of complains here about not being able to install many apps on iPad 1st gen. Come on, people, it says in the description - WILL NOT UPDATE PAST iOS 5.1.1!!!! And even though many apps require iOS6 or 7, if you need it just for basic things like internet, mail, eBooks and a few other things like Sudoku or Chess - it works fine.

If you have some other things in mind - make sure that it will work for you BEFORE YOU BUY IT! Make sure that the apps you might need will work with iOS5. The rule of thumb - if you need it for more than basics - don;t buy it!
It has no camera nor mic, so no pictures/videos taking, no Skype, no audio recording.

I bought it for my wife as eReader and even though at first it didn't let me install iBooks (Error: iOS 7 required!) I found a little trick on the internet, how to get the older version:
1) install itunes on your PC, download iBooks there, sync iTunes with the iPad.
2) disconnect iPad from PC. If you don't see iBooks on your iPad, download it through the AppStore on your iPad - and THEN you will get the message that it requires iOS7 and the option to download older, compatible version of the iBooks.
If you just try to install iBooks through the AppStore (without step 1), it won't give you the option of older version, just Error message.
People say that this trick can be used to download older versions of some other apps as well (Facebook for inst.), so give it a try.

Good condition, good price. Because it is 1st generation it is limited to older apps since the operating system (OS) is an old version and can't be upgraded.

Due to programmed obsolescence, the 1st gen Ipad can only surf the web and correspond via email. Everything else was cutoff by Apple after introducing the Ipad 2. I bought it to gently introduce my dear old mother to the digital age. Web surfing and email is all she'll need.

J'ai bien reçu le produit , mais je déçu très déçu cars cette tablette est équipée d'un logiciel iOS 5.1.1 seulement sans aucune possibilité de le rajeunir . Je ne comprend pas ???? . Mon ancienne qui date de 2010 environ est équipée du logiciel iOS 9.3.5 .je ne peut même pas transférer ma page Face Book , même pas transférer des jeux de quoique ce soit . C'est inconcevable une chose pareille ?????

...hauptsächlich auch die Software über die Zufriedenheit entscheidet. Was Apple tut, können andere Firmen ebenso und besser. So enttäuschten mich Konkurrenzprodukte zu tiefst, weil es bei den Androiden keine für mich passende Software-Auswahl gab. Apple diktiert und Google ignoriert. Dieses "Riesen-iPhone" ist und bleibt für mich die erste Wahl wenn es um sauberes und zügiges Arbeiten geht. Natürlich kommt auch 'just for Fun' nicht zu kurz.
