It appears to be Apple packaging--says "Designed for Apple-Made in China" I purchased an
Apple leather cover from Best Buy when IPAD 2s were the newest/latest generation---it is clearly leather. This one seems more like fiber board that would crack if I dug my fingernails into it. I had an extra IPAD that wasn't being used, and unlike the one I use, had no apps on it. I am going to keep the extra one in my car to play music, and because I didn't want the screen to get scratched--I purchased this cover.

For the price, a lot cheaper than my original one, and for my desired use--it's ok, but one or more of three things seems to be at work: 1. Apple started making the cover more cheaply once the IPAD 2 became yesterday's news, or 2. It has a minute amount of leather in it to justify calling it 'leather' or 3. It isn't really an Apple product.

If you want something durable and professional looking for daily use--pay the extra money and don't buy this product. You get what you pay for.

So I purchased this cover obviously because it was so much cheaper than retail ($69.00). I felt that it was reasonable since I mean there isn't much too it afterall. So it made sense to me that an Apple product (Smart Cover) really could sell for these prices and still make profit. I decided to go ahead and buy used because I'm into reducing, reusing, and recycling. I got the package super fast within just 2-3 days I was really impressed at how quick it came. Immediately upon pulling it out though I was just confused. What I saw SAID Apple. It even had a number on the metal just like the Apple ones but it didn't feel like Apple. I stuck it on my iPad and I just hated it. So I was really shocked that Apple could make something like this. So I decided to research a little bit. I came to the reviews section where I bought it (right here, you're reading one) and saw a lot of complaints about people getting fake covers!

So I was peeved to say the least. I contacted the seller asap. Telling them I was upset that I believed I had a fake cover! They responded:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us. This item was purchased as used. I have checked with our shipping department and this is an authentic Apple Smart Cover. A full refund has been issued for your purchase. Please allow 1-2 days for the refund to be posted to your account. There is no need to return the item.

There response was very quick during the same day I sent the complaint and by the time I had received the message I already saw the refund posted in my account. So I was thinking I'd go ahead and just soak up my losses tosses this crappy cover and run to Walmart. Then it occurred to me what would I do about leaving feedback to that seller. If they really believed it was genuine and they had offered me such good support up to this point I pursued.

Another message from seller:

You might have received the incorrect item but we checked all the covers that we have in stock and they are authentic. We do apologize for this matter. Feel free to reply with any questions.

So at this point I thought maybe I am wrong. It does SAY Apple. SO I respond and tell them not to worry about sending out another just yet to let me go and get a second opinion and confirm it's fake. I run to Walmart explain the situation and ask kindly if I could bring one of their legit covers up to the front open it in front of them and compare the two. They agree that that would be fine. So myself and 3 curious Walmart employees gathered round and we started comparing. IMMEDIATELY 2 of them said wow it doesn't even look the same. The third was skeptical. So we started comparing tiny things like the positioning and size of the font that said it was Apple and touching the front and back in comparison. Everyone agreed that it was NOT Apple and it was indeed fake.

So I came home contacted the seller who said they'd RMA my last one and send me a new one. I say ok.. hey they made a mistake they have been INCREDIBLE at responding and just amazing customer service. I realllllllly wanted to leave these guys a good review.

I get the package today for what they assured me was a legit cover and it's the same issue as before unfortunately. I again have a fake cover.

So this time I went ahead and I called Apple. I wanted 100% confirmation. After talking with an associate for quite a while and them running the numbers from my cover in there system to match them up they also verified it was fake. SO now I really just can't leave a good review.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

The used price of this item is well worth what you get. Anything between 5-10$ dollars is a very reasonable price for a cover and this one is not terrible. If what you want however is an APPLE Smart Cover where you want the fine craftsmanship and the fanboy bragging rights I would emphatically tell you that this is not for you. I personally would not purchase ANY Apple cover from Amazon given the reviews I've read here now and my own experiences. As said above though if you are just looking for a case between 5-10 bucks then this could work for you.

Bought mine from BlueJay88. This is real, made for or by Apple, engraved on metal, not printed, came in sealed plastic and cardboard display box, looks, feels, and smells like real leather, works great. Cannot speak for items that are from diffrent sellers that appear here, i.e. Bought navy blue one awhile ago that was advertised as leather by Apple from another seller (selllowerprice) but it's obviously some sort of vinyl, and it turns out the navy blue was not offered in vinyl from Apple, so not only was it not leather, it was a knockoff, came in plain manilla envelope. Seller took back about a week ago and I'm still waiting on refund. I'm not sure if sellers are all out to get us, It's pretty hard to tell sometimes real from faux (fake) you see things sold as real leather, but in fine print it states (sometimes) pu-leather, which is man made and definitely should not be called leather. Some sellers are unscrupulous and some probably don't know how to tell the difference. I once did a frame off restoration of a 68 GTO. First thing I did was verify the vin fom appx 3 places hidden around car. Reason I did this is there were appx 30,000 of these made, but appx 90,000 out there on the road. Too bad people need to be the way they are.

Fake Product from "Everest Supply"

This Smart Cover was obviously a fake. I received it today and immediately noticed some scratches and scuff marks on the leather. It did however smell like leather, so it was not quite as fake as some of the other reviews. I ordered this one because I saw in the "New" selections there were some even cheaper, but from the other reviews thought that would be too risky. I confirmed that this is a fake by removing the printed stickers from the back of the real Apple packaging and found the actual label for the package was "Grey Polyurethane Smart Cover."

I thought about keeping it at first but it does not magnetically hold to my iPad as good as my real gray one does so that would be unsafe. Also, for the price paid a fake is not worth it. Therefore, I returned this cover to Amazon and will either wait until Amazon themselves sells them or go to an Apple store. Unfortunately now I will no longer be able to trust 3rd party sellers that are Fulfilled Through Amazon, except that the return will be much simpler. Amazon stocks and sells great products, but many 3rd party sellers are just out to make money by tricking people.

ポリウレタン製のカバーが経年劣化で破損してきたので、今回はシックな革製にしようと、買い替え目的で購入。。。

apple storeでは一昔前のアクセサリー類は種類が少なくなっています。
今はポリウレタン製しか取り扱いがなかったような。。。
amazonで純正品新品がapple storeよりもだいぶ安く手に入れられることは喜ばしいですね！

その上、本来あるべきはずの磁石がない
コンディションは最悪です
失われた磁石は代用が効かないパーツです
残った磁石をボンドで補修して使用していますが、その工程を思い出すたびにイライラします
購入すべきでないと思います
