Browse, buy, and download music from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store at select Starbucks locations or other wireless hot spots in your area. iPod touch finds wireless networks and connects you to the Internet.
An accelerometer detects when you rotate iPod touch from portrait to landscape, then automatically changes the contents of the display, so you immediately see the entire width of a web page, your music in Cover Flow, or a photo in its proper aspect ratio.

So I sent it back in order to get another one, but the seller said he never received it. He was still nice enough to send me the second one (dunno if he ever got the first one; I like to imagine it's drifting in the ocean). Second one works like a charm, though the headphones are clearly cheap. I was expecting the cool Apple ones with volume control, but I guess that's too ahead of 1st gen's time.
Everything's going fantastic with the iPod, until a month later. 1) I've got a buttload of incorrectly categorized songs just chilling under the letter "Y". 2) My songs either stop playing randomly or just never play, about 70% of the time. It's extremely frustrating. So I guess here's some pros and cons.
I got it pretty cheap! I bought it used and it was quite scratched, but that doesn't bother me.
Charges like nobody's business, and it doesn't take long either.
Lots and lots of storage space, obviously.
Smooth touch interaction, no skipping or stuttering.
It's really hard to find the settings for shuffle and repeat. Or maybe I'm just stupid.
The thing about having outdated software is that a lot of awesome apps became available since its heyday. It would have been great to be able to Shazam new songs while playing my old ones, but alas.
I think the "cons" are more what I get for getting the very first generation of iPod. The only reason I even bought this one was because it had sufficient storage space and it was a reasonable price. I don't have a preference to touch screen (Would've gotten Classic, but it was too expensive) and I'm not that technologically nostalgic. Just cheap.
I've owned the smaller nanos, and at 66 years young, found it a bit tedious.
Great games to download at a very reasonable price..easy to see on the bigger screen than nano, or classic. In color also.
Nice for showing off the family photos, as one can actually see this larger screen with ease.
However, get the 2nd generation itouch if you use a phone line modem.
It's virtually impossible to download the upgrade of software on a phone line.( a $10 charge, by the way )
What upgrade you ask? Well...there is an 'app store' icon that is already on the 2nd generation (and on iphone), but lacking on the first generation itouch. One needs the 'app. store' software to download any games or desired other applications.
I tried for 4 days to download this upgrade via modem, on two different computers, and two different phone lines. It always times out, and must be re-started from the beginning! (no 'resume download' here)
I finally went to the Apple store, and used their Wi-Fi to get it loaded.
Now I love my itouch!
So, for an extra $20, get the 2nd generation...you'll spend $10 just for the download, and at least $10 in sweat and angst. ;)
It's working really fine, but one thing is my fault, I didn't considered that the 1st Generation can't be updated, If I knew that, I wouldn't pay that price because it only works for music, images, video and internet but not for applications. I need to jailbreak it, as I said that's my fault.
Sorry for my english, not my native language.
