This was fine software in its day, and I used it to create posters, flyers, café menus, so it paid for itself. The word processor lacked all the bells and whistles found in Microsoft Office, but then, it wasn't bloatware like Office. The thesaurus was better than any I've found on the Web.

Sadly, the last operating system it worked on was Snow Leopard, O/S 10.6.8, so if you have a newer Mac, forget about buying this.

It's odd to find someone selling AppleWorks 6 in 2014. It hasn't been updated since 2004, and is not designed for today's Macs. It's a shame, because it was reasonably good software in its day.

If you bought your Mac in the last year or two, don't bother buying this software. But if you have an older Mac you *may* be able to use it.

Case in point: I have a Mac Pro which can't run Appleworks. It's an older Mac Pro, circa 2009, using the Snow Leopard operating system. I was able to install Appleworks on it but it crashes frequently and creates conflicts with my other software. So I've found it by and large unusable on that machine. This was a little irksome because I have thousands of files written and formatted in Appleworks, and had no way to open them after it stopped working on my Mac.

Interestingly though, I was able to install it and use it without problems on my Macbook Pro laptop, which I bought in 2010. The MacBook Pro is also running Snow Leopard. I'm still using it successfully on that machine.

If you do decide to take a chance on it, before you will be able to install it, you would first need to install Rosetta (which used to come as part of the older Mac OS. (You can find Rosetta online if you poke around long enough.) But again, don't bother trying unless you're using an older Mac. Best to look for current software instead.

FYI, Appleworks is not (and has not been) compatible with Mac OS. However, as of today it still functions properly on windows through windows 8 OS. I still use it solely for the database which is AWESOME. Best database software.
