The first flaw noticed is the most obvious and alone necessitates my not recommended. The paper used is so thin the printing on the back of each page bleeds through to its front. It's undeniably distracting, and there's no alleviating work-around solution.
The second obvious flaw is the widths of the inner and outer margins. The outer is a bit too wide, and the inner margin (near the spine) is too narrow. This causes undue extra effort in flattening out each page to make it appear flat and not rounded near the spine. It's as if the pages were designed to be read on a flat computer screen instead of being bound in a book.
And then the fonts used are not nearly as readable as they should be. The main font used is size appropriate but an odd font that is the hardest to read of the others used. The secondary font used is condensed (letters close together) and a smaller size than as expected for a Bible promoted as LARGE PRINT. And the smallest text is a common and easy font to read, but then being so small defeats the purpose of seeking a Bible with large print.
For me to have recommended this Bible, it instead would at least have been printed on thicker paper, with easier to read and more size appropriate fonts, with more spacing for the margin near the spine, and on larger pages. I will not be responding to comments.
the study notes are though provoking at times and usually relevant to the reference, though of course, not completely perfect - they are notes, after all, and not scripture itself.
The charts and maps are interesting, though sometimes some of them are really vague and leave you wondering why it was put in other than as a space filler. The informational sections at the beginning of each book, between the gospels, and on certain people is interesting and thoughtful, though sometimes its a bit long.
I also have this as a kindle edition, which is nice as well, though it does get a little difficult to navigate. Unlike my leather bound Bible which has all the notes, cross-references, and definitions on the same page that I'm reading, making it extremely convenient, the kindle edition requires taping either the small verse number or a small asterisk or plus at the end of the verse, and sometimes getting these tapped is difficult. And it takes you to a completely different page from which you then have to navigate back to where you were reading. It would be nice if these were built in as pop-ups somehow instead of being listed all at the end of the book.
Overall, this is really an excellent study Bible, both in print and electronic editions! My first copy was a hard-bound edition, which I wore out, and needed to replace. I bought a Hudson study Bible and gave it a try, but after only a week, I was heading to other bookstores to find another copy of this Life Application Study Bible as the Hudson one just did not compare at all.
This is a well written and thought out Bible version with explanations that really do clarify what Scriptures say in words that are easy to understand.
What I love about this Kindle Bible is that it is exactly like the print version (all the wonderful information, introductions, explanations, maps) and that it is easy to read in the dark or anywhere.
What I am not liking so much about this Bible is finding the explanations easy and not losing my place reading from jumping around so much. On the print version the explanations are below the Scripture, but on the Kindle version the explanations are linked to a little + you click on and then again to go back to where you left off. That for me is time consuming and by the time I jump back and forth I've lost my train of thought. It is much easier with the print version for me to read but I do love having a mobile and portable version that I can take anywhere and read everywhere.
