Just another stylus?
Well, don't believe the hype. When you get past the rave reviews and web buzz, you'll find it comes down to one thing.
It simply feels good in your hand.
Who are Applydea?
Applydea are the Irish design duo Noel Joyce and Andy Shaw. They are co-creators of the Maglus, the world's first magnetic iPad stylus.
How do two young designers get from a hunch that they can make a better to stylus to seeing that stylus appear in Apple's iPad 4 keynote?
Well, they have the design chops for a start, Noel was already a National winner at the Dyson design awards. Andy could take you on a tour of every millimeter of the stylus; his consideration yielding an uncompromising technical edge.
The simplicity of what ends up in your hand is the latest step on an ongoing journey, wrought through considerable ongoing effort. It's not just that the dozen versions that came before the one you see before you, but the dozens of other possibilities they considered, different material choices, manufacturing choices. Everything that adds up to it feeling right.
It simply feels good in your hand.

OLD: The stylus itself is pretty good. I has a nice weight and I like the magnet that holds it to my iPad cover. But like most styluses, the tips eventually don't work as well as when they were new. And this is where I thought this stylus would shine, since the tips are replaceable. Unfortunately, the only place you can get replacement tips is directly from Applydea. This company said the tips were in stock when I ordered them, and happily took my money. Now more than 2 months after I ordered the tips, I still have nothing. And customer support at Applydea is completely useless. I have attempted to contact them over a dozen times, and all I get is a quick auto-reply that they are looking into the matter. Their website now says they are out of stock on the replacement tips, and they refuse to respond to any request for information. I would stay away from these people unless you are okay with buying the stylus and using it until the tips are no longer functional and then throwing it away. If I wanted a disposable stylus, I would not have spent this much money.
To those of you who may be concerned by the comments on Customer Service: I ordered my Maglus in September when there were problems getting them manufactured on time. It happens. I received it in mid-December. It was a long time and I wish it would have been shorter, but it was worth every minute of that wait to own and use this stylus! The day I received it, I opened it, tried it, and immediately ordered two more for family for Christmas and they love it as much as I do.
It's rare that I write a review, but the Maglus is worth sharing. It is that much better.
I ordered a second off of Amazon and received it yesterday, less than a week after my order with standard shipping.
I haven't had mine long enough to comment on tip durability, but it does come with one replacement. I went and ordered a few replacement tips from Applydea and I do expect those to take some time to arrive.
The magnetic feature is a huge plus. I am using this on a new iPad Air, and the stylus fits just perfectly on the thinner bezel. In fact, the magnets are strong enough to affix the Maglus to iPad with Apple's leather case cover on.
Bottom line: This is a solid feeling stylus that feels like a quality pen in hand. The magnet that allows it to attach to an iPad is a tremendous benefit as it keeps me from losing the thing.
The packaging on the product is just as impressive and the extras are fantastic. The magnetic strip allows you to carry/stick it to any surface. It comes with a capsule that contains an extra tip, so your always prepared.
You can find cheaper stylus pens on the market. If you're cheap, go ahead. BUT, if you want a great stylus that writes and draws with amazing accuracy and very little pressure required, then buy this product!
Thanks Maglus! You guys rule.
