Jake has always been the joaster of the school pulling pranks and he is determined that this April Fool's Day to outdo himself. The only problem is when is a prank too much? It is KC's first day in her new school, but her vow to keep a low profile is all but forgotten when she sees one of the student's, Jake, hurting others with his jokes. Jake's ultimate stunt proves to be too much when it all goes wrong sending KC to the hospital from an allergic reaction. Now there is no way Jake could have known, but that doesn't mitigate his feelings of guilt. From the most unusual beginnings, Jake and KC strike up a tentative friendship as she starts to trust Jake in spite of everything that has happened. Jake is not being completely truthful with her, but how could he tell her that his interest wasn't completely without ulterior motives, at least a first. Everything blows up, but KC isn't one to cry quietly as she and the girls of the school decide to pull as stunt of their own. It is a battle between the sexes with no rules leaving you to wonder who will win in the end or will it be a draw?
This was a will and crazy ride back to the complications and fun of high school Each book in this series gets better as they go along continuing the lives and loves of the students in West By High. It is difficult to trust once you have been betrayed, but KC willingness to try again showed she was ready to go on with her life. Jake with all his bluster showed his true colors when he accepted what happened without asking any questions helping her to move on. Jake's reputation for being a happy-go-lucky gay could be a cover for other feelings. They have more in common then they think if they can just look past what other people think to see who they really are.
Received for an honest review.
Unlike the previous books the main conflict happened around 50% in which allowed plenty of time for a more realistic resolution. This wasn’t a “ok, you apologized and I’m over it” situation. The Hero had to prove himself to in fact be changed and having learned from his mistakes.
I also liked the heroine and while I felt she went over the top with some things I could understand her reasoning. She did learn from her previous mistakes so that was nice to see.
Overall it was a good continuation of the series and I’m actually sad to see it end - there are a few other character I would like to see get their story. The only thing I would have changed would be for the Hero to know more about what happened to the heroine. No he didn’t need to see the video but more than just the cliff notes I felt would have been beneficial.
As always it’s completely safe and I recommend for young teens and anyone looking for a light read.
