The light uses 9 LEDs, spaced out from each other in sets of 3. So there are 3 columns of 3 LEDs a little over an inch away from each other. To keep this light low profile, the magnetic diffusion panel that attaches to the front of the light sits so close to the LEDs that you can clearly see the 3 columns of LEDs shining through it (see photos). The diffusion panel can not even out the light it projects because of its proximity to the source. It's basically sitting directly on top of the LEDs. The result of this is that you get some really nasty shadows on whatever you light with this. The light will produce 3 separate shadows stacked on top of each other thanks to the 3 columns of LEDs (see photos). So imagine 3 nose shadows on someone. Because of this, I docked one star.
I also docked a second star for the cheap filters they included. The light has magnetic spots to attach a single diffusion frame which they include. But they also include some really crappy, cheap paper gels/diffusion to stick between that frame. It's janky. They have magnets already built into the light's bezel so I don't understand why they didn't use them and make the gels magnetic panels, similar to the milk diffusion panel they included. The paper gels are not cut to size and they stick out of the light (see photos). I'll probably return it. Can't decide yet.
Provides surprisingly bright, soft white light (with a color cast, sadly) for a small light. USB powered, which is great since the battery lasts less than like 2 hours of continuous shooting. In bursts, battery lasts a pretty long time.
The way to secure the diffusion paper seems like an afterthought, leaving the paper to get destroyed.
Not a fan of the overall mounting system. It works, and I'm grateful to have both a shoe adapter and a 1/4" 20 tap, but it's a pain to use.
Inside the box, you will find the LED light with clip on a magnetic diffuser plus three additional filters. You will also find an adapter to mount it on top of your camera, a carrying case and USB cable for charging.
It's made from a hard plastic but has a solid feel and with a little care should last a long time.
At this price point, there are a lot of amazing LED studio lights but those could never replace this little guy when it comes to portable and ease of use.
On the side of the light, you will find an on-off switch, two buttons to dim it up and down and one micro USB port.
Using this port you can charge the 1800mAh battery, giving you about one and half hours at maximum brightness.
The light itself on its lowest settings has a nice white soft feel, with a colour temperature of about 5500 kelvin.
I tend to use it when I producing videos outside and need a little extra light on a person's face.
