The interior of the stainless steel top looks like a polished piston head rendered in gleaming solid stainless steel.

I'm somewhat astonished they can sell this product, made of these materials and made in the USA, at this price. Simply outstanding.

It's more expensive than the polypropylene plastic cheapies, but this will last forever and will likely outlast one's house. Plastic units can leak/crack pretty easily if over-torqued, and they have plastic threads, as well. Plastic threads suck.

If you're trying to reduce the amount of plastic chemicals you drink, this is one of the only tickets, as well. It's more durable, withstands higher temperatures, and is most likely healthier.

Note that this is not a massive filter housing; we typically use units 2-3x taller and 2x the diameter for whole-house applications, especially ones that pull off a well. For municipal water, this filter size should be fine. Aqua-Pure makes a unit that's 2x taller, also in stainless steel. For some reason, unfortunately that unit costs more than 2x the price; this makes even less sense given that the head is by far the more complex component and is the same on both units (the body is thinner and similar to a tougher version of the stainless steel water bottles that are common these days.)

I'd use this size for an under-sink filter, and it seems to fit most brackets just fine. It's like a Seagull IV filter, except hidden out of view, a much better value, and compatible with industry-standard filters that you can buy anywhere and customize to your water needs.

The only minus is that the included "wrench" only acts on one part of the sealing ring. A better wrench would wrap around the unit and act on two of the attachment holes at once (somewhat like a crescent wrench). Not a huge deal. Hopefully, replacement o-rings aren't too hard to find or substitute for in the future.

I used this in my last house, and just installed one in my new house too. I tried other filters that were made of plastic, but they leaked over time, and one cracked. This unit is extremely well made, and I'm using it to filter the water from my well as it feeds into my geothermal furnace. The downside of this filter is the housing around the filter cartridge is made of stainless steel, therefore you can't see through it. So - I have a pressure gauge on each side of the filter. I know the filter needs to be changed when there is a significant difference in water pressure from the input to the output of the filter while the furnace is running, which is currently every 2-3 months. This is a great investment for protecting a geothermal furnace. In my last house I used it to filter the water feeding into a Rinnai water filter, with the exact same set up with the pressure gauges. Again, it worked flawlessly.

I bought two of these. One has a sediment filter, and the second one has a charcoal filter. I'm on city water, but sometimes there's a LOT of rust in the water. The sediment filter cleans out most of the rust, and the charcoal filter clears out the chlorine. You can't see through these, but they are very heavy and look like they are going to be extremely sturdy. I had plastic filter housings before, and one of the plastic housings broke within a few months. I had my plumber install a water pressure meter after the second housing so I can see when the pressure drops, and I know when to change the sediment filter. I can't see when it's filled with rust as I could with the plastic housing. This is a really great product, but expensive, especially for two of them. But my family's health is paramount, and these are far cheaper than the whole house filters sold by many water filter companies.
