3M Aqua-Pure Scale Inhibitor System
The 3M Aqua-Pure AP430SS Scale Inhibition System helps extend the life of appliances that use hot water (e.g., water heaters - standard and tankless and washing and dishwashing machines), as well as plumbing fixtures (e.g., faucets, pipes and shower heads)
Inhibits scale build-up in hot water heaters (both with and w/o tanks) & water using appliances
Polyphosphates sequester or bind calcium and magnesium hardness minerals, preventing them from precipitating out of solution and building up on metallic surfaces. Polyphosphates also form a thin protective layer on the pipe wall or metallic surface which helps to eliminate hardness build-up and corrosion
- Designed for scale and corrosion inhibition to help extend life of hot water systems, pipes and downstream plumbing fixtures
- Ideal for any size home and light commercial applications
- Easy to install and change-out cartridge
- Helps protect piping system from corrosion

FYI--Take the time and put two valves in (input/output)--makes it a lot easier to service.
Still have it. No problems so far
Still have it and still descaling.
Something to consider. I do not use hot water now cooking. I was making soap, which with tap water, come out clear. Using hot "descaled water" had my products come out cloudy, which I can say is from a chemical reaction from with the descaler.
Other observations I've noticed is that if you keep the filter on beyond the recommended time, it still works but the beads melt and settle to the bottom restricting flow. If you want to get the max life out of them you can remove the filter and shake it to see if the descaling media is mush or still in original form of cake like spheres.
I highly recommend this product!
All the best,
Minerals occuring from hard water will adhere to the sides of copper pipe, gradually choking the water path and eventually interfering with the normal operation of your water heating and cooling appliances-leading to a subsequent increase in energy costs."
that said, given the math (when the carts cost $25), you're essentially paying $40 for the stainless steel T-fitting, which does seem a bit steep. for $65, they should include two carts, not just one. i don't think i'd try to find an alternative (i.e.: a hardware store T-fitting), but it's with noting the excessive cost.
