The thing with impellers is that they have to be cleaned frequently (my husband tries to make sure to do it @ 4 times a year) to keep them functioning properly - it's the only moving part of the filter, with its ability to rotate freely within the pump being of primary importance in maintaining the flow of water through the filter itself. Well, it happened AGAIN, this time with the impeller of his AquaClear 70 (and I think it may have been a bit longer than 3 months since the last cleaning, because it started to rattle - which drives me nuts, and is a sure sign that the impeller needs to be cleaned before it gets too gunked up and burns up the motor!) I jumped back on here and found the same thing price-wise... $16.83 on Amazon, $19.99 direct from Hagan.
His experience is that these parts really do last a long time (if they're properly maintained and don't end up under a workbench!), especially if he occasionally applies a drop or two of silicon oil (safe for fish) now and then. But I sure hope he's a bit more careful - if the impeller of his 110 decides to join its buddies under that daggone workbench, I'm not going to be a happy camper. Even with the cost savings, it still seems like a lot of money for such a little thingamajiggy!
