Arthur Curry is a man of two worlds.

Six years ago he was a surface-dweller, raised as the son of a lighthouse keeper. Then tragedy struck. Destiny was revealed. And young Arthur Curry claimed his birthright:

The Throne of Atlantis.

But his reign was brief. When darkness threatened the surface world, he rose to meet it. As Aquaman, he joined the team of heroes called the Justice League, leaving the rule of his kingdom behind. But even underwater, the past will not stay buried. A sinister force is pushing Aquaman's two worlds to the brink of war, with the fate of the planet in the balance. If Arthur does not reclaim his throne, the throne may well claim his life…

Collecting AQUAMAN #0, #14-16 and JUSTICE LEAGUE #15-17, AQUAMAN VOL. 3: THRONE OF ATLANTIS is an epic tale of conflict and conquest from the all-star creative team of Geoff Johns, Ivan Reis, Paul Pelletier and Pete Woods!

"[Throne of Atlantis] is showing many of the same qualities that make Sinestro Corps such a standout comic book event. It's dramatic, engaging, and expertly rendered."—IGN

"Romance. Superpowers. Atlantean invasions. Geoff Johns, paired with..Ivan Reis, sets up a nice starting point for the "Throne of Atlantis," balancing characterization and widescreen action with equal enthusiasm."—Newsarama

Geoff Johns is an award-winning and New York Times bestselling writer, film and television producer, showrunner, and entrepreneur known for re-imagining superheroes and other iconic mythologies, past and present. Johns is best known for his work on properties such as Green Lantern, Aquaman, The Flash, Superman, Batman, Justice Society of America, and most recently, the creator-owned hit series Geiger, currently being adapted for television at Paramount.

Since the beginning of his creative career, Johns' hallmark has been writing heroic and inclusive characters, including teenage hero Courtney Whitmore aka Stargirl, inspired by his real-life late sister; the Shazam Family, which he re-imagined into a diverse modern family of today; and the first Arab-American Green Lantern, Simon Baz, as well as the explosive multi-colored Lantern mythology that defined his decade-long bestselling Green Lantern run, among many, many others.

Johns’ most recognized work in television is the critically acclaimed Stargirl series which he created and ran. Some of his film credits include Wonder Woman (executive producer), Wonder Woman 1984 (also co-writer), Aquaman (also story) and Shazam! (executive producer), based on his graphic novel with longtime collaborator and modern legendary artist Gary Frank.

In 2023, Johns co-founded Ghost Machine, the first-of-its-kind creator-owned company. This groundbreaking collective includes some of the industry’s most legendary writers and artists, disrupting the old industry model by giving ownership to its creators, and paving the way for them to retain creative control and financial participation.

Born in Detroit to a Lebanese father, Johns was honored with his own permanent section at the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.

I have to say that Geoff Johns' writing is a bit "hit and miss" for me, and I am far from a fan of his writing. But I absolutely love what he has done with the Aquaman character. Each of the three released graphic novels that release Mr. Johns' work are extraordinarily well written, and are stories that truly showcase Aquaman unlike any other writer has.

Geoff Johns' writing is what I would personally call the "Quintessential" Aquaman storyline(s), and in my opinion, better than any other writing on the Aquaman series to date. Aquaman has had a long, and sometimes tumultuous run in comics, and I fell that Geoff Johns' writing has changed that.

I don't know that I will continue to read the series beyond his run, as I don't know that many other writers out there can follow up on Mr. Johns' work aside from talents like Jeff LeMaire or Scott Snyder, neither of which I honestly see writing Aquaman anytime soon.

If you are an Aquaman fan, a Reluctant Aquaman fan, a Closet Aquaman fan, or just want to read an excellent storyline, I would suggest picking up all three Aquaman graphic novels:

Aquaman Vol. 1: The Trench
Aquaman Vol. 2: The Others
Aquaman Vol. 3: Throne of Atlantis

The Throne of Atlantis arc is simply wonderful. What I most love about it is Orm; he has such a great redesign, he's menacing, his lines are awesome, and his relationship with Arthur is believable and complicated. For being the token villain he's actually very honorable, worthy of respect and admiration as a king, for he actually cares about his underwater subjects. On the other hand, watching him flood Gotham is just priceless. The very tense and volatile state of affairs between the surface world and Atlantis is interesting and enriches the still-fantastic Aquaman run. My only complaint is that the art change between Ivan Reis and the other artist they have drawing Aquaman now can get a little jarring if you pay close attention, but other than that it's freaking fantastic.

Story reintroduces Ocean Master as well as puts Aquaman back on the throne of Atlantis. Better overall story then the animated movie

This volume is a solid continuation of Geoff Johns' run on New 52 Aquaman, but as others mention in their reviews, there is heavy overlap with the Justice League volume for Throne of Atlantis. As a result, this oftentimes feels much more like a Justice League/crossover event type story than really an Aquaman story, though he is undoubtedly the center of the major battle that takes place between Atlantis and the surface world. This volume furthers his story in that it explores the tension and rivalry he has with his brother Orm, and makes that the driving force of the plot. But again, sometimes the quiet character moments and development take the backseat to over the top action with a huge cast of heroes, so that's the only reason I mark this down slightly to 4 stars. Still a great story nonetheless.

The new aquaman is fun and exciting and a fantastic read. I would recommend it to reads of all ages and genders, I truly believe there is something for everyone in this comic, buying the book is also cheaper then getting all of them separately. I loved this one, it really is exciting as the 2nd volume!

Geoff Johns has made Aquaman an A List Superhero as only he can do. Sorry he is is moving on, but, we got three (3) Aquaman Volumes out of him. Hopefully, DC can find someone to keep Aquaman a viable and interesting character, Thanks Geoff for doing Aquaman justice FINALLY!!

Again, Johns delivers the quintessential Aquaman book. Out of all the reboots in the New 52 I think Aquaman has been by far the best one along with Batgirl and Justice League Dark. Grab these volumes if you can, they are very worth it!

The story was alright but just a heads up most of this book is a reprint of Justice League Vol. 3: Throne of Atlantis. If you're interested in the Throne of Atlantis storyline buy one or the other.

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome tale uprising from the depths of oceans....

Brilliantly written and boldly created, throne of Atlantis is an awesome story of Aquaman and his brother Orm. I cannot find a single fault in it, it is completely brilliant. Though I had picked up this book on random, you should read Aquaman vol 1 The Trench too in order to completely understand the concept of trench creatures. That being said, you could still read it as a single shot as trench's concept has been made quite clear in this. Geoff Johns is an awesome dc writer, and his Aquaman run on new 52 is also awesome...

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best story I've read in 10 years
Reviewed in Canada on July 7, 2015
While this volume is mostly a reprint of the JL Hardcover collecting the same story, if you don't read JL but do read Aquaman, this book is for you.

If you read JL but not Aquaman, buy the JL hardcover instead of this one.

This is one of the best stories Geoff Johns has ever written. He has breathed new life into Aquaman and crafted a tale that is heavy on mythology and has a huge twist at the end that you will not see coming. The art is stellar and the characters are very well fleshed out.

Highly recommended. My personal favourite.

5.0 out of 5 stars Directors cut
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 27, 2014
After collecting the first two JL graphic novels I had read that the third book continued a story which had been build up in Aquaman series. I therefore bought the first two collections of Aquaman which were fantastic! I then read JL Throne of Atlantis and found it a bit disjointed. I decided to pick up Aquaman Throne of Atlantis even with the understanding that 3 of the 6 issues published inside I already had. However Aquamans TOA was like watching an excellent directors cut. Instead of being disjointed it was like one big story ark.
The Aquaman series has really been terrific (I was never a fan before) and this was a great climax.
I would highly recommend this over JL TOA.
