Before I purchase the system I called and spoke with Allen on multiple occasions about which system I should purchase. I provided Allen with all the information concerning the water in my home such as the hardness level (330ppm) the amount of chloramine (3.6ppm) that the local water company uses to treat the water, number of bathroom (3), and the number of people in my home (2). According to aquasure user manual the maximum tolerance for chloramine is 2ppm. The chloramine in my water is almost twice the max allowed limit of the system.
Allen told me that 48,000 grain system would work best for my home based on the information I provided. He also recommended I buy "Aquasure Fortitude High Flow Whole House Water Filter". After purchasing both recommended items I decided to verify what Allen had recommended with other companies. After doing a little research on my own I discovered that I made a horrible mistake listening to Allen (I thought he was the expert). It turns out that Allen was completely wrong when he told me bigger is better which is why he recommended 48,000 grain instead of the 32,000 grain system that I actually needed. Also the filter he recommended was NOT design to filter out any chloramine.
Long story short Allen sold me a system that would have destroyed itself, probably within months, had I not verified whether Allen knew what he was talking about. When water with a chloramine level of above 1.0 ppm passes through a water softener, the chloramine will oxidize the resin beads. This oxidation will affect the softening process and drastically shortened the life of your resin.
When I tryed to return the system in order to purchase the correct system I needed which happened to cost an additional $700 aquasure refuse to pay return shipping. It cost me $120 to return everything to them. To make matters worse aquasure turns around and charges me a 20% restocking fee.
Please do yourself a favor in stay away from this company because they are not a customer friendly company.
Once they have your money they will ignore your calls and complaints.
Offering a great price on the system, but having zero reviews, I took a chance on this seller. I called them in advance and they were great at providing guidance in selecting he right system and providing technical detail. When FedEx delivered the system , everything was well packaged and intact. They included the original Aquatrol user guide, as well as a very detailed and well illustrated self installation and programming guide. Installation was simple and everything worked as expected. The day after installation, the water test showed that my hardness dropped from 11 grains to 1. So happy!
Quick note: When it comes to programming, there are 8 setting that determine how the system operates - 3 of the settings need to set for your specific water quality and usage requirements, while the other 5 should remain at their defaults. I wish this were explained in the instructions so I didn't have to spend an hour researching the setting for those 5 defaults.
I found the answers and help with installation programming on YouTube by googling "Aquatrol Installation." The first three videos in the results were everything I needed.
This control valve is entirely different than what I was used to. On Big Box Store units, you have to program the time of day, recharge time (e.g. 3AM) and grains of hardness. 3 things.
On this unit/control-valve you have to set the time of day, recharge time, backwash duration, brine draw (recharge and slow rinse) duration, rapid rinse duration, brine fill duration, units (gals or liters), capacity (you calculate how many gallons before recharging by knowing your hardness and the expected usage), type of recharge schedule (immediate or delayed)....quite a few things to deal with BUT I find the flexibility in the details to make this superior to my old, big box store unit. I feel that with this unit, my salt usage is optimized in ways that I could not accomplish without being able to program all these little details myself.
With this unit, you have to install a separate brine line to the brine (salt) bin/tank and find a place on the floor next to the resin cylinder for it. On the big box store units I've owned, the resin tank is inside the salt/brine bin.
I highly recommend studying the many fine "softener capacity selection" guides and calculators available on the www before deciding which of these excellent units to purchase. Mine is 48,000 grain capacity (1.5 cu ft resin) which suits my needs perfectly.
All the tubes and bins and connectors are provided with the kit. You will have to provide plumbing from your water source to the unit, then from the unit to your house - and a suitable drain that meets your local codes for a few gallons during recharge. My unit came with 1" NPT male fittings, spaced 2" apart, center to center, and 50" off the floor. Some of the comments here seemed to indicate 3/4" fittings, but mine came with 1".
So here's what's wrong with the unit the drain hose has a reducer on the hose side so when pressure builds up it can break away from the softener spraying gallons of water everywhere. If your lucky it will stop in an hour but if it triggers the GFI it will just keep dumping hundreds of gallon water into your house.
