We bought the Aquatopia Deluxe for our newborn son 2 months ago; it was very easy to use while it lasted, but it lasted only about a week. We had decided to buy it after reading these stellar reviews, and even though it cost a little more, we thought we were paying for better quality. The biggest mistake we made was throwing away the packaging (including the warranty), at a time when we were getting rid of piles of boxes that came with the baby items we had bought online.

The Aquatopia looked exactly like pictured -- cute, and was very easy to use, for exactly 4 baths. It powered off automatically almost as soon as I took it out of the water. During our son's 5th bath, I noticed there was a small amount of water under the display window. I took it out of the water immediately, but it didn't power off like it had done previously. I followed by shaking it, as some reviewers here had described doing, but again it did not power off. It finally went off on its own after about five minutes.

At midnight the same day, in between our son's feedings, we were awakened by a loud, high-pitched sound from the Aquatopia. I knew something was wrong, but still held out hope this was just a signal that the battery needed to be changed. When I opened up the battery covers (there were two layers), I found tiny drops of water on top of the battery (bad sign). After I replaced the battey and put the Aquatopia back in the water, it did not turn itself back on again. It was obviously that the thermometer had short-circuited. When I looked under the back cover, I found rust had spread across the entire circuit board.

If we had kept the original packaging and warranty, we could have had it replaced. When we decide to buy another bath thermometer, we will stay away from Aquatopia.

As a first time mom, I am terrified of the idea of burning my daughter. I love to take really hot showers, so my tolerance for water is much higher. This thermometer eases all of my fears. It turns on as soon as it hits water, and turns off when it dries. I just give it a few shakes after a bath and it usually turns off. The thermometer beeps when the temperature gets too cold (I think 89 degrees or less) and when it gets too hot (101 degrees or more). If it is in the right range, it doesn't make any sounds. It just displays the temperature in both Farenheit and Celcius. As an added bonus, it's a super cute design and I know my daughter will love playing with it once she learns knows how to grab things!

One more thing - I hate paying for things that don't offer free shipping, but it was totally worth the additional shipping cost and more! I highly recommend it to anyone who is concerned with the temperature of the bath for their children.

I'm always skeptical of thermometers but I have tested this one against others and they are always the same temp. It also works pretty fast! I put it in the tub as I'm filling it and it adjusts the temperature as the water fills. If I hear the too hot warning, I can adjust the water. I love this thermometer!

I bought it and it last it for about 4 months - then it stopped working for no reason. I changed the battery, open it to find what might be wrong to no avail.
Just save your money unless you don't mind to change it some months after your purchase!

I purchased this product to use for both of my children (ages 2 and 10 mos at the time). The thermometer itself is very cute, appears sturdy and well-built, and quickly gives out a temperature reading and even beeps if the water is too hot or too cold. However I am rating it so low because the thermometer stopped working after about 3 weeks of "normal" use. It did begin working again after resting for about a week (my husband used it, not knowing that it had previously stopped working), but then about 3 days after that it stopped working again. Luckily I had carefully read the reviews before purchasing and made sure I could return the item to Amazon since I purchased directly from them as a "prime" member. Thank goodness I took those precautions or I'd be out over $10 for a defective thermometer!!! I'd recommend not wasting your time with this one and get one that's more reliable.

The first night I loved this thermometer. I registered for it and opened it early. I didn't read the instructions (not sure if there were any) and didn't realize that it turns on when you put it in the water. I thought that was insanely cool and clever. It's incredibly sturdy and makes for a great bath toy. I have used it myself during pregnancy to make sure that my baths aren't too hot.

What happens AFTER you're done in the tub is the problem and why I took three stars off the review. I tried drying it. I tried flipping it over. After the second night I used it, I started hearing a beeping coming from the bathroom and I went to investigate it. It would not stop beeping. Someone here posted that it thought it was in cold water so it is beeping because it thinks "the water is cold." There is no off switch so I literally had to muffle it in a towel and hope that it didn't wake my husband.

As a first time mom I obsessed over everything, including bath safety for baby. Bought this and loved it the first few times I used. The only downside is that it would drive me a little crazy when the water would get a bit too hot because it would take forever to shut up while I added cold water (of course, baby was not in the bathtub while I adjusted the water temperature). The reason for a 1-star is that after only 6 baths, water got inside the digital unit and it doesn't work anymore. I'd assume this would be the ONLY thing that the manufacturer should have figured out - how to use a bath thermometer in the bathtub without destroying it.

Anyway, instead of gadgets, save your money and just stick your elbow in the bathtub. The inside of the elbow has very sensitive skin, so if the water is too hot for the baby you will know.
