I was using this heater in my saltwater 12 gallon Nano tank and after one month of use the heater stopped working so I unplugged the heater and after 15min of wait I took the heater out of the water... the heater was full of water inside with all the electric components full of rust and dark color. I am lucky that I didn't receive any electric shock and that my fishes and corals are fine. I am posting the photo of the item. One very good product is the Aqueon PRO Heater (Made in Italy), you can feel the high quality vs this one that is made in china by the same company.

I have a 30 gallon tank, but it is our basement that gets cold at night when the space heater isn't on down there, and the 150 watt tank heater I had just wasn't keeping the water in the tank warm enough. I have a Red Ear Slider, and you need the water to be 80-85 degrees, and this heater works great. I plugged it up, and immediately it started heating up in my hand. I sat the temperture on the heater to 82, and with in an hour the tank temperature was exactly 82. It's been about a week or so now, and everytime day or night I look at the temp, it's always right there at 82, so it keeps a very constant temp. I am happy with this purchase for sure, and so is Franklin!!

I use this for my 100 gallon tank and I couldn't be happier. I have been using it for about the last year and it has worked perfectly since day one. It is really simple to hook up and use. I would highly recommend this product.

My only complaint is that the heat from the unit has caused dried burnt on crusty stuff, I am quessing the aquarium sludge, as I keep 12 pretty large Koi in my aquarium after losing my pond.Heats too well almost, on the lowest setting it keeps the water about 75, the koi seem to be thriving though as they eat more often and have grown inches in the past 2 months.
Great service..will use again..

Until today I thought this heater was the cat's meow.

Granted, it is indeed true that the temperature gauge isn't totally on the money. 84 degrees may actually produce 86-degree water. You have to have a thermometer. I had this heater in my 55-gallon with another heater and never had a problem. When I had an ich outbreak, the two together did a great job of keeping the water at 87 degrees.

Today I moved the heater to the other side of the tank. There was no trauma to the tube, but when I plugged it back in, it began to make a knocking noise. At first I thought it was the filter or the glass on my tank cracking. It knocks when the light is on, when it's heating. I just can't afford to have a disaster in my tank with glass and electricity, so I have removed it. I have read about this and I am not the first person to hear their Aqueon knock. It's often accompanied by condensation inside the tube. The noise is enough to make me toss this thing in the trash before it does damage. It's disappointing, because until today, I thought it was the perfect heater.

EDIT: A week later, I have it in a tank I'm cycling, and it hasn't been knocking. I'm not going to change the number of stars I gave it, because I don't entirely trust this heater. For the moment, it's working perfectly. I don't feel comfortable putting it back into my glass 55-gallon though.

Good price. A lot cheaper then local chain petstore. Had to replace my old tetra heaters. They lasted 15+ years old. I hope these work at least 7 years. I like this heater. Temp setting is close. Underwater is nice. I use two of these in my 200 gallon saltwater tank. So far no problems. Using for about a month. Update 9/20/13 This heater worked fine. Now it will not turn off. This is number two that has done this. Killed my saltwater fish and some corals. Over $700 in death. Was gone for three days. temp hit almost 100.

I bought two of these, one for my 50 gallon and one for my 10 gallon. Both Worked fine for about a year. Then after a year or so I noticed the first one was getting too hot. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it was fine for 2 weeks. Same thing happened. I took it out and cleaned it and tried again. it's been fine ever since. The second one did the same thing some time later. I cleaned it and it was fine for awhile. A couple weeks ago I started losing fish. The water was a little warm, but not enough to start killing fish. I turned it down. Everything was ok for awhile. Then, just the other day I noticed the tank (10 gallon) was 86 degrees, with a fish stuck up one of the filter tubes. I turned the control all the way to the lowest setting and it wouldn't shut off. I took the heater out of both tanks and threw them away along with another dead fish. Now I'm out the cost of 2 heaters, and about $150.00 worth of fish.

I purchased the 300 Watt for my 75 gallon aquarium. I keep my house temp at 72F. I set the temperature to 74F on the heater. I noticed the light indicating the heater was heating remained on and seemed to never turn off (the built in thermostat that regulates on and off. I have another tank with other heaters and the light turns on and off regulating the temp frequently) however I thought nothing of it. 24 hours later I noticed the heater had bubbles all around it, similar to a carbonated beverage. I looked at my thermometer and the water was 90F!!! I started scanning for dead fish and sure enough several of my smaller fish where on the bottom of the tank dead. I immediately lowered the temperature setting to the lowest setting 68F and it still never clicked off after about 3 minutes. So I stuck my hand it and touched it and it actually burnt me. So I quickly removed it from the water and it immediately started steaming off water residue. My hand slipped and a portion of it feel back into the water and it made a crackling hissing sound like when you put water in a hot cooking pan. (These types are heaters should NEVER get THAT HOT, they are only designed to increase temperature by about 5 - 15F) I put it back in the box to ship return it and after 10 minutes I touched the box and I could still feel the excess heat radiating from inside the box. I seen this heater had only 61% 5start reviews, but I was thinking that is the "majority" of happy. I guess I fall into the other half of customers who received a faulty device. I have NEVER had to return anything I've purchased online, nor have I ever given anything a 1 start rating. I just can't believe how unsafe this device was to my pets and even to humans.
