We, my son, husband and I all enjoyed this book. While it has the other world fantasy setting you'd find in books like the Narnia chronicles or Harry Potter, Sandru weaves a balance between fantasy and sci-fi in a way I haven't seen before. The children in the book find themselves "magically" transported to another world while performing an experiment at a school science fair. Throughout the book the children use scientific problem solving to make sense of their odd situation and to figure ways to get home. As a parent I was cheered to see my son glom on to a story that showed children he could relate to use their heads in such an intelligent manner. These characters did not weakly stand by and let fate take the reigns. Despite very frightening situations they did not give up.
This book is fun to read. The illustrations are wonderful. Parents can be sure that their children will come away from reading this with a better grasp on how to approach problem solving. And the reader may even step away with a better understanding of Quantum Physics.
This is the beginning of a series. The second book is not available yet. We were sad to see it end without the ability to grab the other book and start right away. So, we are also learning patience here.
