Luminarc is the oldest brand currently sold by Arc, launched in 1948. Arc International is a French manufacturer and distributor of household goods. The company was established in Arques, Pas-de-Calais, where it is still headquartered, as a glass-making firm under the name Verrerie des Sept Ecluses in 1825.

My ONLY gripe is that these glasses are so wide! I have small hands so I have to really stretch my hand a bit to grip it well. I also have to be careful when drinking because of the wide mouth. If I'm drinking a very thick smoothie, my drink travels to the rim of the glass in an area wider than my mouth. Thinner liquids are not a problem.
I was thrilled to find that this set I just purchased on Amazon look EXACTLY like my original old working glasses, and blended in with them flawlessly! To my delight, I see that they are still making them precisely as they did decades ago, lids and all. In fact, these new red lids fit perfectly over my old glasses, and my old lids fit just fine on these new glasses. It's wonderful to find a product that is STILL manufactured in the same quality manner that we remember it as children. These glasses took a beating when we were kids, and still get bounced around now, and they still look and perform like new.
I don't understand some of the negative reviews. Perhaps the buyers of those glasses made an error and bought knock-offs instead of genuine Luminarc glasses, because I received the original Luminarcs with the "500" stamped on the bottom, and I couldnt be more pleased.
The glasses themselves are sturdy -- something you will notice immediately when you get a good grip on them. Glasses with thin walls and flimsy construction are NOT what you will find with these. They are well-constructed, and even hold up to the occasional clanging up against other glassware in my lunch bag. The added bonus with these glasses is the lids that easily convert them to storage pieces. Want to take your morning oatmeal with you to work? These are just the thing to use to set aside a serving, throw in your lunch bag and head out. They are also fantastic for meal leftovers.
As for clean up, that's easy, too. I've had no problems hand washing these or putting both glasses and lids in the dishwasher. These are definitely a 'win' for your kitchen.
