Dr. James Maxwell Miller is Professor Emeritus of the Candler School of Theology of Emory University. After retiring from Emory in 1999 he spent ten years as archaeologist on the staff of Fernbank Museum of Natural History. Among biblical scholars he is best known for books and articles on ancient Israelite history. Among archaeologists Dr. Miller is better known for directing an archaeological survey of the region of ancient Moab (in present-day Jordan). The results of this survey, conducted between 1978 and 1983, are published as Archaeological Survey of the Kerak Plateau (1991).
