The story and action intensity has been ratcheted up. The mystery aspects are still excellent. The evidence, other than that the victims have been exsanguinated, doesn't point to vampires.
Memorable new characters have been added to the Sorceress' team. Old characters like Havoc and Spike are further developed. But it is well written and the reader doesn't need to the books in order. However, if you read this one first< I guarantee you'll go back and read Havoc's Cry.
Powerful new enemies are encountered--almost too powerful for the team.
With Archangel's Salvation, Weaver has stepped up her game to compete with the masters of the paranormal genre.
This is the second book in the Victoria Novak series. Victoria Novak is The Sorceress, the only one in the world. Even Victoria has no idea of the extent of her powers, the more she calls upon them the more she finds out what she is capable of. Victoria is part of the new Federal Paranormal Division of the government. She is, in fact, more powerful than any of the other team members. The team is called in to investigate a puzzling series of murders, where the corpses are found drained of blood. It seems obvious to Tori that there is a vampire involved. As her team leader is away at a conference, Tori gets to lead up this investigation, although she really doesn't want to. She knows it is going to mean going to the vampire Coven Master, the absolutely last thing she wants to do. All indicators lead the team to a club called Transylvanian Travesty, owned by a very powerful vampire. Not knowing whether the Coven Master knows about this, Tori has a meeting with him, and he lends her Gabriel, another powerful vampire. Although the last thing Tori wants is to constantly be around a vampire, she knows he will be a big help and has to accept him. The team, also, has a new trainee. Will this one make it? All the others have washed out. Tori needs to train him properly, so he doesn't get himself, or anybody else, killed. With all this going on, the kick-ass Tori also has her own fears to fight and, at times, it is definitely a losing battle. She is definitely shown with all her flaws in this story. The team is determined to stop this serial killer no matter what it takes, and Gabriel was definitely a great addition. I loved his character. Victoria always seems to be attracting intriguing new strays into her circle. This story is full of exciting adventure as the team tracks down the killer, and a surprise or two. A great sequel to Havoc's Cry, it draws us deeper into the world Loren Weaver is creating with interesting new characters and expands a little on previously met ones. The alias' used by the team, Victoria is Firetop, are fun, and it's interesting to see how they came up with them. It could be read as a stand-alone, but to really get into the series I would recommend reading them in order. I will definitely be picking up the next one.
Looking forward to book 3 in this series.
This suspenseful thriller will keep you guessing until the end, and introduce you to some new paranormal characters each with their own unique talents. More than just a vampire story, each character is unique in their special powers and temperament. Highly recommend!
