No doubt, this is a gorgeous deck. The artwork is the main reason I bought it and it is just as beautiful--if not more so--than the images shown online. And while the images for the various minor and major arcana are more than slightly different from a more basic Rider-Waite, I think any advanced-beginners would have no problem interpreting its meaning.
However, the card stock is very cheap. VERY cheap. More like typical playing cards. I mean, like business card flimsy. On the very first day, the corner of one of the cards bent--significantly--through ordinary shuffling....and with good reason: the cards are so flimsy, that it is very difficult to properly shuffle them without them scattering all over the table.
Honestly, I was planning on giving this a 4-star rating (with the caveat of the cheap stock), but when it's so flimsy that it can't even stand up to basic pshuffling, it is pretty useless for my purposes.
I really don't understand why anybody who took the time to create such beautiful imagery would waste them on extremely low-quality stock. It would be far better to charge a few dollars more to express themselves and allow readers to make real use of this deck.
-The cards are beautiful. The nudity is not terrible, but it is abundant. I love every image in this deck; I feel as though if I had the time, I could spend hours looking at them.
-The cards are a little large for my hands, but that is nobody's fault. I just have small hands I guess! I knew they would be larger than playing cards, I just didn't expect them to be so difficult to handle. I've been practicing shuffling them for a while now, and I've gotten marginally better. I suppose it's just one of those things you have to get used to.
-The cards are very slick. I think this contributes to the difficulties I have shuffling. The moment I pulled them from the box, they slipped right out of my hands. Reminded me of one of those water toys...anyway, I don't consider this a bad thing really, just unexpected. It makes them easier to work with; I would hate to have cards that stuck together.
-I did a sort of "test" question to see how well I connected with the cards, and they've continued to give me accurate answers thus far.
-I do not mind the shorter description of the Minor Arcana cards. I feel that too much description would take away the mystery of it all.
-The interpretation of the cards from the LWB are preferable to other interpretations I had read online.
All in all, I feel this is the perfect deck for me. I had a couple other decks I was considering while waiting for these to arrive, but I doubt I will follow through with purchasing them as this deck seems to be a great match for me. I would definitely recommend this deck to anyone.
Another thing I like about the pictures of this deck is that they lend themselves to various interpretations. For my own use, I have created card meanings for many decks, and over the years I have come to favor certain information units over others. With this deck, I was able to include the most valuable and useful of those information units. As a result, I have a collection of seventy-eight card meanings for the Archeon Tarot that not only harmonize nicely with the pictures, but go straight to the core of anything asked about. I had only limited success doing that with other decks, as the pictures did no lend themselves to that sort of flexibility of interpretation.
The cards of many tarot decks leave much to be desired. They are sometimes too thick and stiff to shuffle easily, and with extended use become sticky and hard to work with. The cards of this deck, by contrast, are nicely supple, and have a nice finish to them that keeps them from getting sticky with extended use.
By any yardstick whatsoever, this Archeon Tarot is a class act.
