About the Author

Tom Porter was senior lecturer at the Oxford School of Architecture, Oxford Brookes University. Over a twenty-five year period he made annual visits to Florida A&M University in Tallahassee where he taught architectural design. He is author of eighteen books on architectural drawing and environmental colour, including the best selling four volume series Manual of Graphic Techniques. His research into the psychology of colour became the basis of a six-part BBC TV documentary series and the book The Colour Eye.

This was a complete waste of money. The majority of the terms have almost nothing to do with architecture. I expected illustrations of architectural components like dormer, gable, types of arches etc from the vast history of architecture. This was mostly vague boorish philosophical trendy terms that no one needs a book about . To title it as Archispeak is misrepresentation. The few illustrations were of marginal quality. Overall the book is so disappointing it might be the only book I will ever use as kindling. I promise if you buy this book you will feel cheated. I suppose that is it's TRUE value, as if there are not enough examples these days.

Deeply disappointed in the books layout/execution. For an illustrated guide, pictures, diagrams and renderings are scarce. The book is visually underwhelming, to say the least. Unless you’re looking for a dictionary experience, don’t buy it.

While this book claims to be "illustrated", it's illustrations are very small, and pretty worthless on the point of view of an Architect, as in, there are no illustrations for terms such as "parasitic architecture", but there is an illustration for the term "fibonacci sequence". This book also does not cover terms for description of architectural features such as gable-end, corbel, etc. I found this book to be deeply disappointing and also smaller than expected being a A5 size (which may explain the very undersized and sparse illustrations).
