This video shows the Architec Recipe Rock holding 15 sheets of paper (20-pound grade). I've gotten it to hold up to 16 sheets but not very securely. I normally only need it to hold 1-3 pieces of paper, and the Recipe Rock holds them very securely in place.

The slight curve to the rock helps hold up the paper so that it doesn't bend or collapse. It is much smaller than I expected (about 2 inches high and wide) which is a bonus as it takes up very little space on the counter top and can be stored easily in a drawer. (For a recipe ripped out of a magazine, use a looseleaf paper behind it if it wants to fall down.)

On my Recipe Rock, the magnet resides inside the round metallic disk on the base (rock). The metallic ball is not magnetic.

Obviously this will not work with cookbooks, but for recipes on loose leaf paper, this is a GREAT little kitchen gadget. As I normally have several recipes out on the counter top when I cook, I will be purchasing at least one more of these. (Update: I've since bought another for myself and 5 others as gifts. Everyone who received one loved them!)

love this product - works great. very clever idea. but...

...wish the magnet was a cube rather than a ball. that way, when you drop it, it doesn't roll of the counter and onto the floor and under the fridge. oy!

Ever since I started printing recipes off websites they've been laying around my counter or taped to a cabinet as I cooked. This very little piece of equipment solves this problem. When in use it holds the paper upright and out of the way of splashes and grease. When you're not using it--it doesn't take up any more counter space than a salt shaker. Very simple and helpful. The magnet is quite strong and holds several piece of paper.

Architec Recipe Rock, TurquoiseThis little gadget is by far one of my favorite kitchen toys! I absolutely love it. I have many print recipes on paper and this tiny little holder keeps the page straight and tall, fits anywhere on the counter, and doesn't take up much space in my cabinet. Reading a recipe held upright by this tiny "rock" is extremely helpful. Making room for a laptop in the kitchen, and exposing it to spills and liquids, is not my style of cooking!! I love, love this gadget! So much so I am purchasing more as gifts because unlike the prior reviewer, I find it to be exactly what I need, and certainly not an extraneous and superficial aid.

I ordered both the white and black versions. Good tools but both arrived with chipped and damaged finishes. Bummer

I read about this in Cook's Illustrated Magazine and ordered one right away. I was taping recipes to by microwave and it was driving me crazy!

This is a high quality product and works perfect. I have read that it can hold 5 pages....I have only tried it with one but it is a very strong magnet. It seems a little smaller in "real life" and less obtrusive. It would easily fit in your "magic" kitchen drawer but is small enough to just leave out on the counter.

Would definitely recommend and it would make a wonderful hostess gift!

I gave this as a gift to my daughter-in-law. She, like many others, print out recipes from online sources. She liked the rock, but said it didn't work well with a single sheet of paper. It would need to be rested against a wall or some other object. It seemed to work a bit better with more sheets of paper.
