The top hinged lid was bent when I received it. It took some doing to straighten it out by hand to make it acceptable. I didn't dare use tools, because it's plated, and that could have left marks. The metal around the slot was also bent, but that is so thin, it was easy to straighten.
Another problem was that the lid rubbed on the house when lifted up. I ended up having to use thick plastic washers with the upper screws, putting them between the box and the house, which made the top of the mailbox stand away from the siding slightly. That let the lid lift up freely.
The slot is wide, and you can get your fingers down in pretty far, so magazines and large envelopes could easily be pulled out. I'm using it for my renters to put rent checks in, so they should drop to the bottom and be fine.
its a product that's different from what can be found locally, it won't break the bank and it consistently looks good - i have used several colors and my favorite is the aged pewter.
all colors consistently get compliments.
its really great to find a product that you don't have to think about or re-shop each time.
We did have an issue with the lockset, however. The included key did not work the lock which was installed on the door. I opened the lock and it appeared the tumblers were set correctly, but the keys were just cut poorly. Since I needed to have the box up to replace one which had broken, I just went to Home Depot and bought a new lock for a few dollars that night. Not a huge problem, but for the money a bit more quality control would have been nice. If not for the improperly cut key, I'd have rated this higher.
