the lack of a 2-way zipper is a disappointment
on April 4, 2015
I bought the Stingray from Backcountry.com. I posted the following review (a similar review was submitted to the Arcteryx website, but they didn't post it.):
NEEDS TWO-WAY FRONT ZIPPER PULLS
Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I needed to replace my old fully-featured Marmot Gore-tex jacket. The Marmot jacket had 10 pockets (Napoleon, hand-warmer, sleeve, internal), detachable hood, pit zips, powder skirt, two-way front zipper. Unfortunately, they no longer have a similar jacket.
I bought the Stingray. It has 2 large hand warmer pockets, a sleeve pocket and 2 internal pockets. Not as convenient as my old Marmot with Napoleon pockets, but I can live with it.
The pit zips have 2-way zipper pulls, but the front only has a one-way zipper. Since it only has a one-way zipper, I have to wear the jacket hiked up above the waist because of the small front-facing fanny pack that I wear. Although it wasn't a deal-breaker, the lack of a 2-way zipper is a disappointment.
Regarding size: I'm 5' 6", 144 lb, 38" chest. I tried on both S and M. Both fit OK, but I chose the M because it was easier to put on with a wider chest. Sleeves are too long, but the velcro takes care of it.
High quality jacket, but skewed priorities vis-a-vis 2-way zipper pulls.
