*Arctic Silver 5 With its unique high-density filling of micronized silver and enhanced thermally conductive ceramic particles is optimized for use between modern high-power CPUs and high performance heatsinks or water-cooling solutions. *ArctiClean is a two-step cleaning process that removes existing thermal grease or pads and prepares the thermal surface for a fresh application of thermal interface material. ArctiClean 1 Thermal Material Remover quickly emulsifies and dissolves the existing thermal grease or pad from the CPU and/or heatsink so that it can easily be removed with a clean cloth or paper towel. A few drops of ArctiClean 2 Thermal Surface Purifier and some gentle wiping then removes the remaining residue and inhibits flash corrosion on copper or aluminum.

I also used this to redo the thermal paste on a 2008 15" 2.4GHz C2D MacBook Pro, a 2009 White MacBook, and a 2011 15" i7 MacBook Pro. All of them had really poor paste jobs from the factory.
My wife's 15" 2008 MBP was the most impressive, though. We sent it back to Apple three times for a new logic board, new hard drive, and for Nvidia graphics issues. Streaming video would always result in screen tearing, and there were a plethora of video issues. It would get so hot that you could literally fry an egg on it. So recently I figured, why not redo the thermal paste? It was the worst of all the laptops I did.
Once redoing the thermal paste on that 15" Aluminum MBP, the results were dramatic. The laptop was cooler, the fans didn't spool up as often, and AMAZINGLY, video streaming no longer had screen tearing! So all of the Nvidia issues that have been documented for that model laptop could have been ameliorated by something as simple as reapplying the thermal paste.
It's been about 4 months since I did the paste on her laptop, and it has run like a whistle ever since. Her 2008 laptop is just as fast as the 2013 MacBook Airs, for basic tasks. Her battery life also increased due to the better cooling.
Thanks, Arctic Silver!!
Can't say enough about this product offering
I had a 2 yr old ASUS N53SV EH72 that needed a good repasting as its stock thermal greese was whatever ASUS smeared on it when it was coming out of the factory.
I also used this compound to repaste a ASUS UX32VD.
Had no issues cleaning the old thermal paste. Other than this...
***Word of advice, even though Arctic Silver Site says to drip the Solution #1 onto the thermal grease, I suggest you use Isopopryl Alcohol 99.99% on the dried thermal greese and/or only apply solution #1 onto a microfiber cloth to clean. I spent 2 hours trying to dry the Solution #1 which had seeped in between the orange tint layer and my Corei7 CPU.
I only applied two drops but the Solution #1 seeped out and seeped between the Orange tint sheet and the CPU. No harm was done as I am typing with the same laptop the got the solution seeped in between. I reassembled the machine after I had made sure all the solution #1 was air dryed off the CPU.***
The 3.5 grams is a LOT. I repasted both laptops and still have enough for 10 more laptops. SO technically this is a very good deal.
Each laptop had a CPU + GPU, so 4 Chips total.
I also removed it a few times as i misplaced the heatsink so I had to redo it. And I still have over 80% of the tube leftover.
-High quality thermal paste that I get recommended to where ever I ask.
-Solution #1 is not the same as Isopropyl 99.9% but works VERY FAST. 1 drop emulsifies the dried up thermal greese. 2nd-3rd drop and all the 2yr old greese is gone.
-Solution #2 is AFTER completely cleaning off Solution #1. It "primes" the surface for Thermal Greese application.
-Solution #1 has a Citrus smell. Do this in a ventilated area.
-SOlution #2 has no smell, but again, do this in a ventilated area.
-Syringe of 3.5 gram Arctic Silver has no way to gauge how much is left over.
-Need to squeeze the bottle really hard to get a drop out. Must be a safety measure.
-According to Arctic Silver, Thermal paste requires 200 hours to "break-in". I guess I need to Game for 200 hours to see results :D
-If you don't use Isoporpyl alcohol 99.9% like me, you would be using Solution 1 and Solution 2 in a ~5:2 ratio per CHIP.
>>>Meaning ~5 drops of Solution #1 to every 3 drops of Solution #2. Since #1 is a cleaner and #2 is for priming.
-Continued use and Solution #1 will run out before solution #2.
-I bought this with Cooler Master Icefusion 200 grams ( I bought waaay to much), to use the Cooler master as "practice".
-Arctic Silver Cleaning COmpound works well with other-party thermal greese, and had no issues with the Cooler Master THermal Greese.
If I were to buy more, I RECOMMEND buying a NEW set Kit. Meaning Buy a Kit with Solution #1 & 2 and WITH the Artic Silver Greese. Still worth the money and you don't have to worry about running out.
As far as compound application goes, there are all debates about a dot or an X or line. I followed the directions on the Arctic Silver website.
After cleaning both surfaces completely according to the instructions, you apply compound to both surfaces and spread it, then rub it off with a lint free cloth such as a coffee filter until no more comes off. This will leave your surfaces tinted, no longer perfectly shiny. It fills all the surface voids with compound. Then apply a line on the processor in the direction of the actual transistor rectangle. And install the cooler.
Extremely satisfied with the performance.
