I bought this as a lunch bag. It carries most everything I need for work. I have only used it for a week, so I can't talk too much about longevity at this point. However, my impression thus far is that it is fairly sturdy, the stitching looks well done. There is a visible effort to have heavier stitching at attachment points for straps, and the stitching looks pretty clean and well placed. The majority of the material on the exterior is a lightweight rip-stop nylon, with some mesh type mixed in along with a more basic nylon as used in straps. It is not the heavy-weight stuff, but probably to the good. As a whole, aesthetically appealing and looks to be of pretty good quality. It doesn't feel flimsy. There are several D-rings for attachment of the strap, which is just long enough for my use at full extension. I'm a fairly wide sort of person at 5'8" and 220 lbs., so it should work well for most people. Some of the giants out there may need to purchase a bigger strap. =) The back/bottom of this bag, depending on how you have it oriented, also seems to be coated in a light rubberized coating. It seems to mark rather easily, though it does not actually tear or peel thus far. The straps are reinforced with a second material, extra stitching, and wrapped together. The top strap can also be released with a plastic buckle. I don't use this real hard, since I work indoors, this basically gets carried to work in my car and briefly on my person before it gets into a refrigerator. This may go with me camping this weekend, so perhaps I can attest to more after that.
The "ice walls" are marked as such and are of the gel variety. They fit handily into the provided pockets both in front/top and back/bottom with room to spare for extra goodies. The interior appears to be some variation of mylar with a plastic coating, and there is insulation/padding evident on all faces. The expanding part of the lunch box is accomplished with a wraparound zipper which extends the bag by a few inches, making it more useful as a whole. It gets tall enough that the containers packed inside can actually be used stacked on top of one another (main container and then both inner containers on top of that) and still carried with room to spare. The containers do NOT take up the entire interior space. There is still room to for a water/soda bottle to fit in alongside it with some extra room for smaller items.
I really like that this bag can be used in a smaller form factor for a simple sandwich and a bag of chips type of lunch, but also expanded for a full fledged meal. The soft body allows for some wiggle room to insert various shapes of things and to push the boundaries of how much you can carry if needed, and the multiple strap options and carry handles allow a person to always be able to carry this regardless of which mode of carry is chosen. There is nothing complicated about the lunch bag, as it should be, and it functions well.
