Once I started reading, I felt compelled to continue reading, always curious to find out what the next chapter will bring.
I would highly recommend this book, especially to those who have given up on their faith, to believe and trust God who will
see us through our struggles in life.
One day while walking home, Dupree was attacked by a man. Dupree prayed and the guy ended up being unable to move and ran off. In the meantime, Dupree started being more careful and ended up graduating from high school. At first, Dupree didn't have the money to buy her cap and gown but the church gave her the money after the deadline. Ms. Scott, a non-Christian, at first refused to let her purchase the cap and gown but eventually bought the cap and gown herself.
After the graduation, a Deacon tried to rape Dupree. He ended up beating her up and breaking her back. While in the hospital, a police officer admitted that he was Dupree's father, but did not tell her. Dupree ended up moving in with Ms. Scott and she received money to go to college.
Ultimately Dupree ends up meeting her mother and father at 18, meeting a player at 18, getting her college paid at 18, being attacked multiple times at 18 and conveniently having all her problems start and end at 18. Where were all of these people before 18, including God? I was drawn to this book because Duprees childhood was similar to my own. Life is not a fantasy and this author insulted me by making things miraculously work out because Dupree turned 18. In addition the book ended like it had a part 2. Authors should finish the book or write on the back cover that the book is part of a series of books.
We are introduced to two stories; one a back story but in my mind ran right along side of Dupree' story, it was Mrs. Scott' Campbell introduces the reader to two perspectives of God's grace and our faith. The amazing thing is she weaves the story into itself for an audience looking for an inspirational read and those who are not. But for those of us who are looking for the movements of God you will not be disappointed. I think you might find moments when you are disappointed in yourself and have to regroup.
I was very surprised to have a character check me, heck I thought I had it going on but Dupree is the real deal and my lesson learned from her will stay with me always. The Lord will always go with the righteous,we have to be bold in our faith and not let situations cause us to forget. Dupree never forgot and God never forgot her even when she felt she made wrong decisions and couldn't forgive herself.
The family support and heart of good people made this book an emotional one for me. At times I was crying, laughing screaming and on pins and needles trying to figure situations out. But in the end Campbell brought it together, I am definitely looking for the sequel, because once God speaks and we respond we need His follow up.
My mom is a critic, she read it first, requesting a part 2 (which took her two days to read) she even ordered 6 paper backs to give to her friends... one friend read it in one day...
I personally told my book club friends...
I am soo looking forward to part 2, I pray the writer has already started...
Thank you for an awesome book
