These shoes are GREAT! I got the Goretex (all-weather) hiker/barn boots. I had an old pair so I KNEW that the sizing is ample ...I wear an 8/8.5 in shoes and I got the 8 in these. The width is commodious (particularly in the toe area which is what is so important to me) ...I normally wear a b-width and these were wonderful. The day they arrived I put them on that morning and wore them all day as it was rainy and cold and I had to be out a good bit and on my feet. They offer great support and your feet do not get wet either from weather or sweat! Oh and I am in my 70s!

I wear a 7.5 and have a medium to wide foot. I walk every day with my dogs over all different terrain and my shoes wear out on a regular basis. I wanted to get something that was more durable, waterproof and definitely comfortable. After reading all the reviews about several different pair of hiking boots, these were my choice. Great!! I walked just a few miles the first time I wore them because I was unsure of how they would break in but I did not have to worry. No problems with any stiffness or hot spots. No rain yet to be able to comment on the waterproof aspect. I would highly recommend!

Update on these boots - wore them to help rescue a horse - rainy, muddy and cold - and these boots were outstanding! Kept my feet warm and dry - and the boots cleaned up great!

Ariat Terrain women's waterproof hiking boot

I was really impressed with these boots. I bought them as a winter shoe, for everything from working outside to walking the hilly streets in Seattle, and where I live, across Puget Sound.
I was worried that the high top might chafe my ankles and forefoot, but it was fine with a boot sock . There's plenty of room in the toebox, and though they are heavier than my athletic shoes, they are not an uncomfortably heavy boot.
I think they have enough room for my superfeet orthotics, though the support is so good, I might not need them.
I chose them searching for a comfortable shoe after reading reviews from both Amazon and Zappos, and I'm really happy with my purchase. A quality boot and Amazon had the best price!

These hiking boots have seen many different climates and terrains, and I've been happy with their performance in all of them. Ice-crusted trails, rocky ledges, paths covered with two feet of fresh powder? This boot has your back.

Sizing: I generally wear a 7.5 in shoes, but purchased an 8(B) in these boots to allow for a slightly relaxed fit and room for thick wool socks.

Pros:
- TRUE ALL WEATHER HIKING BOOTS. If you want to be cackling away as your feet remain dry and warm, while your husband's "waterproof" boots soak through in the snow or rain, get these boots.
- Great materials and craftsmanship gives boots a long life span. They become merely weathered with wear, not destroyed.
- Fit is incredible- holy hell are these comfortable. When I take them off after a full day of hiking, my feet feel great.
- Sole has weight to it, which helps you steady yourself on rocky trails.

Cons
- Look is somewhat boring, but this is a nonissue. I jazzed mine up with a pair of red laces.
- Bulky, which makes them somewhat difficult to pack. They take up almost half of my carryon suitcase, so I usually end up wearing them on the plane. They're a heavy shoe, which is good for hiking, but not ideal for traveling.

I've been wearing these boots since May 2016 and I absolutely love them. I grew up riding horses, so I am familiar with and trust the Ariat brand. I know they make excellent quality riding apparel. A little pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. I bought these because I was going on a 3 week backpacking trip in Ireland and needed a shoe that was sturdy, comfy and above all waterproof. As an added bonus, they also double as riding boots, so I knew I'd use them after the trip as well. These boots did not disappoint. They took me all over the countryside, up mountains, through puddles and mud, throughout all my dirty hiking adventures these boots kept my feet warm, dry, and comfortable. So for you non-horsey people, these make excellent hiking boots. For horsey people as well, they make very durable work boots. I work at a barn and they have withstood all the mud and poop I've stomped through the last four months. Very convenient if I also want to ride.

Slippery treads. Not good for hiking.

I like it but I really want to LOVE it. But I can't.
I purchased these for moderate/low hiking dogs in the hills. Nothing strenuous. The issues with that are the treads are minimal. I'm slipping over every rock. There is absolutely no grip on the tread. I am a sure footed person who goes jumping up and down rocks with no problem usually but I take pause in these because it feels like I have no traction.
They run large. I ordered my regular size and the ankle opening had a one inch gap all around on all sides. Next size down was too small. I put an insert in, used different tying methods and wear thicker socks to stop my foot from moving. Works OK but not ideal.
They are water proof and seem very sturdy and well made.
In conclusion I probably should have paid better attention to the fact that most of the positive reviews are from people that work with horses/barns on flat land etc. Not hiking around in hills. These are probably great for that.
